Agree 100%. Zanders seems to be EVERYWHERE when out there, and Patterson absolutely looks the part.

Zanders is going to be a stud, probably our most under rated recruit last year.

Patterson showed some serious speed on that one play where

Some kids are just born to play defense. You can tell Zanders is one that just loves to hit. Even for a small guy he’s bringing the heat.

It's gotten to the point now you can almost tell what a guy is going to be like just by the fact that Venables signs him.

Venables doesn't really look for "NFL" linebackers. He looks for guys who can dominate in college - guys who see it, quick readers and reactors who are good at getting off or past blocks and attack the football downhill - guys like Ben Boulware, Kendall Joseph, Jamie Skalski, and now, obviously, Kane Patterson. He does want more athletic guys like Simmons and Dorian O'Daniel at that SLB position but for the will and mike positions you can count on one of those read/react/shoot-the-gap types. Venables even got plenty of value out of Judah and JD Davis because they were brainy high-IQ good-eyes guys who just saw it, despite their lack of NFL athleticism.

You see kind of the same thing at safety - again, we've seen stud NFL prototypes like TJ Green pass through Venables' D but mostly he likes centerfielders, guys who maybe aren't prototype future-NFL but are more in the mold of Robert Smith, Jadar Johnson, Van Smith, and K'Von Wallace, guys who beat you with their ability to diagnose and break on the ball faster than anybody else. The problem with TJ Green, for instance, was sure, he ran a 4.3...but that 4.3 speed sometimes meant he was running the wrong way in a very big hurry, too, whereas most of these other guys run a 4.7 or 4.8 but read it so well and break so fast it covers their lack of pure speed. I figured Zanders was another of those because he was a low-end 3-star guy a lot of teams could have had for the asking but we went out of our way to offer him early...again, if you see us going on a guy like that it's because we think he's a player and So What if he's a low-end 3-star?

Oh, FWIW...I'd lay long odds you can ahead and pencil Reed Morrissey from Wren (and before that, JL Mann) in for a Clemson offer at some point, too. Once you see it enough you just know who Venables is going to like and this guy might as well have a Tiger paw on his helmet already:

Yeah, measurables are nice but venables has

always preferred guys that have a nose for the ball and are just good football players, regardless of size. Guys that he knows can hustle, make plays, and be coachable.

My recollection is several times he's said, he prefers experience (in his system) over athletic ability. He often praises players on their football IQ. As was pointed out, it's counter productive to arrive at the wrong place really fast.
