The Final Four

Jan 21, 2018, 5:10 PM

Who among the final four in the football playoffs --- Clemson, Georgia, Alabama and Oklahoma ----- is known as a basketball powerhouse? Who among the elite basketball programs ---- North Carolina, Duke, Kentucky, Kansas and Villanova ----- is known as a football powerhouse? Very few programs at the top of the football or basketball programs, excel in both sports.

OU won't be top 10 after this week as they've already lost 1 or 2 this week. They're a one man show and were also in 2015 with Buddy Heild dropping 30+ a game. He said elite programs not programs with a good year. Oregon I would say is a different story, they tend to stay in the picture a bit in basketball more than they do in football but they're alright at both, can't say elite.

That’s a good point...this year Oklahoma Basketball

Jan 21, 2018, 5:16 PM

Is pretty solid, however they are not a perennial power. The most recent program that comes to mind was Florida in the mid to late 2000’s. Won two titles in basketball and football, with both teams winning it all in 2006.

Not to mention they are pretty darn good at baseball too

UF did it in the same year

2006

Ohio State is typically very good at both.***

"Everybody needs to know that Coach Brownell is arguably the best coach to come through Clemson." -PJ Hall

I was going to say, historically, probably Ohio State.

Much as I hate to admit that! Aren't they first in B10 bball right now? And we beat them on their home court earlier this year!

2024 orange level memberbadge-donor-05yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Texas was good at both for a while

Jan 21, 2018, 10:25 PM

with Brown and Barnes

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Michigan St has been good at both***

Jan 21, 2018, 10:36 PM

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Very true. Nobody consistently is great at both.

Jan 21, 2018, 8:22 PM

Oklahoma is even overrated this year and have had some moments, but they are nothing overall.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

OU has been to 5 final fours.

Jan 22, 2018, 6:32 AM

Georgia made one too.

Bama and Clemson.....Not so much.

military_donation.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Michigan State has done really well at both

Jan 22, 2018, 8:10 AM

Not quite national title caliber in football, but they made the playoff two years ago and have won the Big Ten a few times.

Florida had an amazing run where they won two football titles AND two basketball titles in 3 years. That was ridiculous...
