Pinckney

Jan 3, 2020, 3:29 PM

Someone asked the question on an earlier thread and I've not seen an answer...seeing his snap count against OSU, and more importantly the fact that it appears Davis was really the only DT logging considerable snaps...is Nyles hurt? What's the reason for the low snap count, feel like we're gonna need all our bigs as much as possible against LSU...

I haven't heard that he was/is hurt

When CBV went odd for most of the game and Tyler Davis was playing so well, there's not a lot of room for Nyles. That's my guess anyway.

Yeah, this. Td plays the nose in that 3 front better than anyone else and nyles can't play the ends so . . .

TD is the #1 tackle- We played a lot of 3 man front- he

played the whole game like several other key guys basically did. I think Williams in #2 DT at this point. If we were facing a goalline or pounding running attack then Nyles may be #2. Williams is a better pass rushing tackle. TD is the best at everything.

He’ll team up nicely with next year’s class

TD has been excellent in all phases. Will be all-conference next year.

Nyles is fine

Brent switched his defense to the Tampa 2 midway through the 2nd quarter. In this defensive scheme, DE’s are shifted inward to hybrid 3-techniques, with just one true DT on the field — which in this case was the bigger-body in Tyler Davis. 3 down-linemen are used so that another safety can be placed in single high coverage (Nolan Turner, in this scenario), while the typical SS (Tanner Muse) can shift down toward the linebackers. Also, this scheme shifts Isaiah Simmons out to the Nickel.

In shorter terms, no, Nyles Pinckney is not injured. Venables just made a helluva coaching decision by switching to a 3 man front scheme (that requires specific sub packages to execute), which was more suited to create internal pressure against the opposing o-line.
