Can't believe after almost 10 seasons now that we are talking about what it will take to get into the NIT,with said I would be happy though at this point just to see this years young team with the ups and downs that its' had make it to the NIT and especially with the uncertainty of even making postseason because of barely being over .500 by 1 win at the moment .

It's hard to say, because this isn't the same NIT from the

Cliff Ellis, Rick Barnes, Larry Shyatt, or even Oliver Purnell years.

The NIT is tougher to get into now. In the past, you just had to have a .500 record to be eligible. Pretty much any major conference team with a .500 or better record got in. Now, it's tougher because of two reasons:

1. Regular season conference champs who don't win their conference tournament have automatic bids to the NIT.
2. There are more quality mid-major teams.

I don't know the exact criteria the NIT uses now, but I wouldn't feel good if we are at 16-15. If we are 17-14 I think we would be in.

Despite the negativity here, I would consider the NIT a success for this season, given the injuries we've had and all of the new faces we have had to thrust into major roles.

Will need 18 wins. NIT doesn't go by NET or any metric, they look for matchups. 17 wins means we finish 17-14 or 15. That will not cut it

The NIT certainly reviews ranking metrics in their selection process. What are you talking about with “matchups”?

When the brackets come out, look at them

they'll take a lower rated team with a better W/L record for a regional matchup. A mid major they can schedule against a high major in an opening round game. 17 wins will not cut it for us. 18 might. Going to be plenty of ACC teams around .500, and they won't take but 2, maybe 3. Only 32 slots in the tournament

You mean like when they sent Oakland (Michigan) to Clemson for a "regional" match-up? I agree it's more difficult to get in than it was years ago, but I don't think you are using sound logic to explain why.

Great point. Not many regional matchups last year:
