Hold out for wifi6 if you can

Bad time to buy a new router. Next year a new standard will be out that's 30% faster and handles multiple devices and balances bandwidth better. You can already get wifi6 routers, but there's nothing to connect to them except one Intel card for laptops. When the clients start coming out, specifically USB, I plan to bite on one.

Oh, and yes, you can replace it. You probably have a router/cable modem combo (probably). In that case, just disable the wifi radio on your cable modem, and run ethernet to a standalone router. They're MUCH BETTER.
