idea to tear down the clemson house and put up the ugly monstrosity of a building that's appeared in its place. not only did it ruin a beautiful hill across from bowman it reflects heat from the sun back onto bowman making it unbearable on a summer afternoon.

The Clemson House was a landmark to all of us who attended The University years ago and I for one will miss it. Perhaps it was not in good condition and needed to be replaced but it occupied a significant position on campus.

eventually reinstall the old neon "Clemson House" sign. I always used to look for it when I was tooling back onto campus on a Sunday evening after going home for a weekend. (Although, once college life took over, that didn't happen very often!) Whenever I saw it, I knew that I was back at my Home away from Home.

the sign was removed and stored in a warehouse off Pendleton road at the armory site next to where the new power substation is going up. I believe it was yard-saled with all the appliances and furniture from Clemson house.

When I was there in the mid 2000s, Clemson house was a dump. I lived in shoeboxes freshman year and thought those were better living quarters than Clemson House. Also the food was not so great then. Harcombe had just been redone, and definitely had the best food on campus.

It’s definitely nostalgia for a bygone era for most people.

It can’t be because Clemson House was an attractive building, inside or out. Because it wasn’t except for the first few years of its existence.

I lived in Johnstone. Clemson House was like a Marriott

Kids are spoiled rotten these days and don't even know it.

Yeah, but the prison showers there were top notch.

Why do dogs always race to the door when the doorbell rings? It's almost never for them.

The standard of living for college students today is much higher than it used to be.

I would argue that it should be, based on the drastic increase in the cost of higher education today.

Same & agree 100%. Plus the dinner there was heads & shoulders above Harcombe & Schilletter back in the 90's.

I have a wonderful memory from a gathering on the roof of Clemson House on a cool, breezy April evening involving a lovely young lady wearing a very thin dress...and apparently nothing else.

I recall a couple of really good meals there - we would slide over to dine with the upscale students, truly a better grade of swill than the usual Harcombe fare. <img border=">

Yes. Loved the sizzler. And Clemson House after Sunday church. When I was ther in mid 80s it was the best food. Harcombe was volume, Vkemson House was quality.

Tower are all much uglier than the new business building.

They probably don't reflect the sun, but a few of them do cast a shadow over the amphitheatre and reflection pond. ;)

Aug 25, 2020, 4:48 PM

... that monstrosity.

I haven't been on campus since that building has been completed but looking at the webcams it looks like there is a scrolling, lighted board on the outside of the building. If that is the stock market(s) scroll than that is the definition of tacky.

That building belongs in a financial district office park, not on a college campus.

better for the campus that what they've done over on that side of the street. Way too modern and office park for my liking. But what do I know? I lived in Johnstone and Clemson House: BOTH GONE! Really takes away from the enjoyment of my return visits to campus.

Ok, who can tell me about the back stairs at the Clemson House?

You know once upon a time the C-House was the favored lodging for the girls from back home who visited Tiger Town for football weekends.

And it was VERBOTTEN for male students to go upstairs. How was this violation of the natural order of life corrected?

My memories go back a little further than most. Clemson class of 1966, Liberty High School class of 1962. My junior year in high school we had our Jr./Sr. prom at the Clemson House. We thought we were on Park Avenue in NYC!

Lived in Clemson house during summer of 2005. Was the most depressing lodging on campus. And I also lived in Calhoun courts which also sucked. Maybe it was just the room I had but it always seemed extraordinarily dark, very poor lighting. The overall feel of the building was like a 70s porno gone horribly wrong.

It was brand new when I was there and the best place to live and had friends that lived there. Back then it was rare to live off campus and almost everyone lived in a dorm. My sons have graduated and their college experiences were so different than mine. I am biased but I think this generation misses a lot not having that four year dorm experience. My best friends and memories are rooted in those guys from E5 Johnstone. The best stories come from that time together.
