It is time to retire the cannon. Just like the balloons.

In these politically sensitive times, it is the right thing to do. We wouldn't want anyone's feelings or bodies hurt.

I think the cannon must go. In addition to the unsafe gunfire, the loud noises can trigger the weaker people in the stands and with more than 70% of people now "on the spectrum", it seems like the PC thing to do. Additionally, I think we need to smooth out the hill. We've lost some players to injury because of it and it's rubbing it in the faces of the morbidly obese and immobile, how we just flaunt running down inclines.
I think we need to also replace the PA announcer with some soothing music - maybe Sarah Mclachlan or something less offensive and the netting behind the goal posts should wrap the entire wall, just in the event an errant ball were to wind up in the stands.
I have a lot of other ideas to make Death Valley a welcoming place for all - in addition to changing the name of Death Valley.. but these ideas are a start.

While I get the sarcasm in your post, I do have to comment on one point.
When you say that “ loud noises can trigger the weaker people in the stands” you are right. However those same loud noises may also trigger the biggest heroes we have in the stands, specifically our war Veterans many of whom live with PTSD. I personally know one Veteran who gave up his tickets because he couldn’t take the cannon any longer. It freaked him out every time it went off.

But he didn't complain to the administration or the press to remove something that lots of other people enjoy...he sucked it up and solved his problem his way.

When I was a kid, I was in a car/train collision accident. Sometimes when I hear a train's horn, I have flashbacks. Can I get all the schools using a train horn to stop using them? Or should I just stop going to games at those schools (like Ga Tech?).
I really was in a car/train collision, but no, I don't have flashbacks. But I do look both ways twice before crossing tracks.

A little cannon safety is all you need . . .
Sep 27, 2019, 10:05 AM

Rule 1 - Don't point the barrel of the cannon at a ref or Clemson player or fan, visiting teams are fair game
Rule 2 - for visiting teams, if you don't want to be at the end of a cannon blast, don't let Clemson score
Rule 3 - Since Clemson will score, visiting teams should not, under any circumstance, follow a Clemson player into the end zone on an offensive play!
Rule 4 - Always be prepared

Rule 5: Opposing teams should not stand at the bottom of the hill when we run down it before the game.

Yes, either an 8 inch howitzer or a 175mm Self propelled un. I personally prefer the 175 gun. It will reach out 40 clicks and touch someone.

at a Clemson game due to the cannon, then, yes, the university should 100% at least consider removing it.

People are injured and sometimes hospitalized by playing football. Should we eliminate that too?

Northern Illinois uses a cannon and manned by the Army ROTC. Sucker is loud and it is in the end zone and not near the fans. Awesome.

My company makes military grade artillery and other battlefield effects simulators. Maybe we could use one of those...
