Does NC State have the most average athletics in all the ACC?

Jan 10, 2018, 9:49 AM

They're never really great or terrible at anything, just kind of blah. They're always about 7-5 or 8-4 in football. Basketball is always about middle of the pack and in a good year a bubble ncaa team. Baseball is usually good but nothing special. Below average to ok in soccer. Maybe the most average team in the history of NCAA athletics.

They had some pretty good basketball teams

back in the 70s and 80s. Their '74 team with
David Thompson broke a streak of UCLA national
championships. David Thompson was one of the
best athletes i've ever seen and may have had
as good a pro career as Jordan if not for drugs.

Their '83 team with Lorenzo Charles, Thurl Bailey,
Derrick Whittenburg and Sidney Lowe finished 4th
in the ACC but got hot in the NCAA tournament, won
some nail biters and beat Houston with Akeem Olajuwon
in one of the most exciting championship games ever.

40 years ago is a long time...even for me. But for young people 40 years ago did not exist. So the answer is they are mediocre at best.

That '83 team was good

Their conference / regular season wasn't impressive, but most of their losses came in January when Wittenburg was out with a foot injury. As I recall, they only lost three game during the year when Wittenburg played.

They were strong and experienced inside but needed Wittenburg's outside shot and his defense.

NC State would be so much better off in a different conference

They are just like Texas A&M. They need to separate from UNC.
