You do realise that Social Security and Medicare are socialist programs, yes? Everyone views socialism as some evil thing. Somehow, it gets equated with communism. Also, you've used "hence" incorrectly. Hence is meant to start an adverbial phrase. What you've written is a dependent clause, not a complete sentence. Hope that helps.

Socialism is good??? And they call republican's Nazis. I guess for some of us who've seen first hand how a socialist government destroys their people and contry. The under funded program's , and death squads are a good thing? Wow. This is how the Nazi took over Germany.

Your post doesn't make sense, especially since I couldn't find a definition for "contry." I never said socialism is good, per se. My point is that many people think it is inherently evil without fully understanding it.

Feb 4, 2017, 8:55 AM [ in reply to Looking forward to my socialist retirement ]

I am a public school teacher and hope to be enjoying retirement in 2 years. Govt job, lifetime pension - check. Medicare at age 65 - check. I will not currently draw SS due to the counties I have worked in did not participate in SS. Rather, we have our own local retirement fund which acts as SS program. EXCEPT - it will pay more due to the fact that the money we contribute to fund is actually allowed to earn more interest - what a concept! Plus, no one (i.e., politicians) is allowed to stick their hands in the cookie jar and rob from it.

Oh, back to that pension. I contribute each month to the funds in that pension. Every single month that money is allowed to grow for 3 decades. It may be forced savings and possibly private savings would have resulted in a net gain, but that money was earned.

Capitalism is good. Compound interest is simple math and available to all. Long live liberty.

And Go Tigers!

military_donation.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

My take LONG!!

Feb 4, 2017, 12:57 AM

My take on our political direction as a country. I am a fiscal conservative as I understand how business, the economy, and hiring works as I work for the top lodging company in the world. Democratic policies do not work in this arena. Trust me the free employment market will increase wages as employees fight to attract applicants for example. I am in a market where none of our employees are near minimum wage.

I also believe that peace through strength is a must in today's world and unfortunately always has been. It seems to me that history is repeating itself in allot of respects. Strong military. Our morals and belief in the humane treatment of people should dictate who we negotiate and do business with around the world and the way we make decisions. Protection of the citizens of the USA is the first priority of govt.

I am more socially liberal. I believe in a woman's right to make her own decision up to a certain point with abortion barring some kind of serious circumstance or health issue. Personally I am pro life as I have seen the impact that choosing to give up a child has on a person. But I would also not put my wife's life in jepordy if there was an issue with the pregnancy. Not my choice what a woman chooses to do as long as there are legal guidelines that limit abortion past the first tri-mester. They have to live with it.

Marijuana - who cares at this point. Legalize and tax. Not my thing, but is not my place to to control others in this area. Not like it is hard to get.

Gay marriage - if you love a person you should be able to be legally bound IMO. We all deserve to be happy. But if someone does not want to marry you that is their choice and you should respect their decision as well and stop being a hypocrite.

Now the whole politically correct let's let a a transgender use the bathroom etc etc baffles me. As a parent of 2 young daughters I do not want a biological male using the bathroom with my daughters. Mind you I will have no problem being your friend and having a beer with a person that feels this is who they are. Just use the bathroom that you are supposed to.

I love the earth but I am skeptical of Global warming as the earth has gone through many climate changes. Not saying it is not legit. Verdict is still out. I also feel we need to find alternative sources of energy but right now oil is it. Find ways to have it stimulate the economy while trying to find the next new energy source.

Protesting- I may disagree with you but I protect you right to do it. BUT! It has become a tool to silence free speech from the conservative side. This I do not agree with. Eventually the conservatives may have had enough. Hopefully we do not get to this point as it will not be pretty.

Entitlements- please. Get off your you know what and work. I have a job for your where we treat you well.

Guns- 2nd amendment. Bottom line. I do not have a gun (bat instead) but it is imperative that this right is protected for all. People
kill people not guns. Crazies will find a way to do the dead. How many of the guns in Chicago are legal?

Long story short I shared this as I feel many of us have different beliefs but are forced to affiliate with one side or the other due to the few main core beliefs. I have started to loathe this 2 party system that is void of independent thought and open mindedness. Tow the line or you are out. Media does not help. It is all opinion or geared towards one side or the other. This country is divided. It is imperative that common ground is found and we work from there. Otherwise every 4 years we are repealing laws and policies. Think freely Tigernation and respect opinions.

Common ground. We all love Clemson. 2017 NCAAF National Champions!! Still riding the high and a daily pinch is a necessity.

Feb 4, 2017, 6:11 AM

Fire department, police dept, social security, welfare, medicare, medicaid, public education, etc. All of these are forms of Socialism and we couldn't function as a country without most of these. When Americans pay taxes to fund these programs its socialism. Obviously this is just my opinion but not all social programs are bad but I do understand that socialism could be very detrimental to this country also. Just my 2 cents. Now flame away, lol. Go Tigers!!!

2024 white level memberbadge-donor-05yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

no, Bill. Fire and police are absolutely not socialism

Feb 4, 2017, 7:10 AM

All government is certainly not socialism. We come together for a common good. We need government for many things that does not make all government and government run departments socialism.

There is very little that government bureaucracies are good at and can do better than can be done by the private sector. Military and Police are certainly done better by government. It's the nature of the beast. There are no incentives to do better, no rewards for innovation or hard work.

The EC served its purpose, the country is represented as a whole and not just controlled by the coastal population centers. Works just like it was intended to where every part of the nation has a voice

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Yeah right.

Feb 4, 2017, 9:13 AM

In the first 200 years of this country we had exactly TWO minority vote Presidents elected by the Electoral College out of FORTY-TWO(one to twenty one ratio), in the LAST SIXTEEN YEARS we have had exactly TWO minority vote Presidents elected(two out of three). This time we have a President who had ELEVEN MILLION more votes against him than for him(53.1% to 46.8%). He lost to his main opponent by about THREE MILLION votes(48.1% to 46.9%). He carried four states by less than ONE percentage point. No, every part of the nation does not have an equal voice when an Elector in California represents 700,000 voters and one in Wyoming represents 120,000 voters. The real reason for the Electoral college:
“The right of suffrage was much more diffusive [i.e., extensive] in the Northern than the Southern States; and the latter could have no influence in the election on the score of Negroes." James Madison's words not mine, is gone. Obviously, we can't just give California 100+ votes as dictated by their population, but we can fix this with 21st century technology but assigning Electoral Votes based on popular votes and giving the percentage of votes as electoral votes. You get your votes to the nearest 5%. You get 53% of the vote you get 55% of the electors, 47%, you get 45% of the electors. Less than 1%, you get one more elector than your opponent. 65% or more, winner takes all. That is the only fair way to reconcile this.

Re: Hillary's margin of the popular vote victory

Feb 4, 2017, 1:02 PM

Nice to know that the other 16 states Hillary carried didn't exist to your way of thinking.Oh and the four states that Trump carried by less than a percentage point. By the way:
"Since the end of World War II, Trump’s percentage of the Electoral College vote is lower than 12 previous results (1948, 1952, 1956, 1964, 1972, 1980, 1984, 1988, 1992, 1996, 2008 and 2012). By contrast, Trump’s electoral vote haul was bigger than only five elections in the post-World War II era (1960, 1968, 1976, 2000 and 2004)."-John J. Pitney Jr., Claremont McKenna College. "A Study on the Electoral College Votes Since Its inception" Jan. 2017

What I find funny is that the same people who constantly criticized and insulted Obama now say, that you shouldn't talk bad about the President. In 2004 I worked with a big time Republican named Bill. He hated Democrats flat out. Bill walked in on a guy speaking a diatribe about "the President", and began to cuss the guy out about saying things like that about Bush. All of us that had been there more than five years went into hysterics. Bill had walked in the middle of the conversation and Charlie was quoting what Bill had said about CLINTON in his exact words as we all remembered them from a discussion FIVE YEARS EARLIER.

They are protesting losing the election to Trump.

What's the solution, just what will it take to make them happy, giving them control over the government? They had it for 8 years and Trump is the result of their incompetence.

LOL. Kellyanne Conway is such a stupid lier, with her reference to the "Made-Up" Bowling Green Massacre.
Of course, she was probably forced to comment by her stupid (the personification of the devil -- self-implicated statutory rapist) boss. Look it up on the Howard Stern show tapes where he brags about sex with a minor.
The Trump supporters are happy now -- but the economy will fall apart in less than 2 years, as Mexico and others place tariffs on US-mfrd products. Estimates are that 2500 mfrg jobs will be lost in the Charlotte-Gastonia-Concord area. Trump doesn't have a clue and won't listen to his advisors that do.
Of course, he's filed for bankruptcy 4 times; it's just the country that will go down this time. But, as he said in 2008, "I don't care about foreclosures; they let me get property cheap." For DJT, it's all about himself. It's sad there are so many gullible voters in the US -- most people in the world are appalled!
SO SAD, really!
