My least favorite week of the year....

Is the "Week of the A**-whippin'"....i.e., whenever Tech plays Clemson in football.
It used to be a good, close rivalry. But not much since 2010. We're 2-8 against Clemson in our last 10, and would likely be 1-9 if DeShaun Watson hadn't been hurt in 2014.
I went into this season hoping we'd win 5 games. I still think we have a shot at that. We have BC, Pitt, Duke, and NC State all as winnable games. Then, we have certain losses to Clemson, ND, and Miami.
Speaking of Miami, I expected them to give you a better game last night. I was surprised at how bad their offense looked against Venables.
I like what Collins is attempting to build at Tech. I think he needs 2 more years to make us really competitive. We're located in a great state for recruiting. And the administration is giving him more support than they gave CPJ. So, I think we are moving in the right direction, but just not there yet.
Anyway, my pick is something like 45 - 14. If we avoid turnovers, maybe we can make it 45-21. Jeff Sims ia very good athlete, but he's struggled with turnovers in 3 of the 4 games. Against Louisville, he took care of the ball, and we won going away.

If GT scores 21

It's because we had a 50 point lead at halftime and played the 3rd and 4th stringers all 2nd half.

Collins loves the area, and understands how to recruit locally. He will build something there if they give him time

I love ya'll QB Sims. He has that DW4 cool demeanor about him no matter what is going on around him. Collins will start winning at GT soon; I have no doubt. You can already see what the upgrade in some positions has done. CU will have to try and confuse and hit Sims early and often. You can't let him get in a rhythm or he has the ability to burn you. He is a pass first kid all day - but can hurt you with his legs if he has to. Should be a good match up!

I don’t really have any animosity towards GT. I’m hoping for a win. I’m hoping we execute cleanly. I’m hoping both teams come out of the game injury free.
Pre-Venables I would lose my mind during this week, knowing what was coming and dreading that we wouldn’t stop it.
I’m thinking GT might have the best record against Clemson, amongst teams that we’ve traditionally played for generations. That’s a nice way of saying, “we still owe you......and no......we ain’t forgot”. ??

Venables is the man....

IMO, he is the best assistant in all of college football. He reminds me of Bud Foster, but he has better athletes to work with than VT ever had.
Combine Venables with Dabo's overall program management (recruiting, fund-raising, keeping the offense humming), and it's unbeatable.
I never thought Dabo would turn Clemson into this type of program until you guys went toe-to-toe with Bama in 2015 and 2016. I figured it was a flash in the pan. But there was something there that, as an outsider, I missed. You guys probably were rounding the corner in 2013 or so.
If Tech makes this rivalry meaningful again, that will only happen by Collins raising the Tech program up, not by Dabo falling down.

Smitty, IMHO you get the UVA treatment. A quiet low-key respectful beatdown and a rest week for the Tigers. Now back in the day, GaT and those ATL refs could wreak havoc on Woody Dantzler and the Tigers. Always been a big fan of Joe Hamilton. Anyway, take it easy on us this week ...
