If Auburn wasn't already Bamas red headed stepchild

Dec 22, 2020, 11:37 PM

They just cemented that with an embarrassing coaching search that ended with a no name coach.

Harsin is a top Offensive coach and a clever selection. Can he adapt from the West to the South (he coached one year at Arkansas St)? If yes, it was a strong hire. Unsure if Kevin Steele will stay as DC.

More importantly, can he recruit the South?***

He needs to build a staff that knows recruiting in the South. If not, he may be in for a bumpy ride.

If Kevin Steele has a choice to stay or go, he had better stay, bc, no other school will pay him a couple Mil a year for that defence he coaches.

I think that Harsin is a much better hire than Beamer! Of course they have higher expectations too though.

I don’t think they’ll see any improvement at all over Gus Malzahn.

Very well could go backwards.

Maybe Row. But Mahlzahn was very average vs. teams with a winning record, and yes, Auburn paid way too much money to can Gus -- $21MM.

Harsin coached at Arky State and won the Sunbelt. I think he is a smart pick as Auburn will pull enough SE talent but Harsin will be able to potentially extend the footprint with his prior experience in Texas and out west. Think - Dabo has be raided the left coast, why not try and pull talent there too.

He is a great pick IMO. Considering he kept the Boise State machine going after Petersen (some debate whether or not Hawkins built Boise). Still winning for about a decade is darn good.
