Moment of honesty: Do we really need help to get into the CFP?

Nov 7, 2019, 3:16 PM

Maybe I'm missing something here but I just don't see how a 13-0 Power 5 conference champ gets completely left out in favor of a one-loss team. Why should the outcome of either of these upcoming games matter once we win out? Just to note, I don't trust the committee. However, I do find it hard to believe that they will severely ruin their reputation and credibility by leaving us out once we run the table. Sure, I'll be watching these other games for entertainment purposes. But this is definitely not a situation where I'm watching, hoping that some teams "sneak us in".

Why do dogs always race to the door when the doorbell rings? It's almost never for them.

Nope

And I don't say that as someone who has any faith in any committee of humans, but rather that the entire system depends on the fact that a team can earn their own way into the title. it's a fine pastime to talk about the "eye test" and the "resumes" and who folks think is better. Thats fine fodder for the talking heads on TV, but in the end if a team can go undefeated against a P5 level schedule, win their conference (obviously) and be left out in favor of teams that did neither of those things then the system implodes. The fallout from that would be devastating to the sport itself.

No, we don't need help. Just keep winning games and we're in.

You said it all.

If an undefeated P5 that won a conference championship was left out there wouldn't be CFP the following season.

It's never been even a remote possibility. The sports media has used it as a story-line to create "drama" is all. It's worked, look at all the hysterics on this board....lol. Those nancy-posts are my favorite.

Make no mistake, Dabo got what he wanted by being ranked #5 in the first CFP poll.
