Merrill Hodge just said that Johnny Football will be

Mar 20, 2014, 11:31 AM

a huge bust, and is not worthy of even a round three grade. Makes terrible decisions and his style of play will not successfully translate to the NFL. He said in all his 30+ years of playing in the NFL and analyzing film, the best picks in the draft are Khalil Mack and Sammy Watkins.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Said Clowney is overrated as well******

Mar 20, 2014, 11:36 AM

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

I'm not sure overrated is the word I would use....

Mar 20, 2014, 11:58 AM

to describe Clowney but there are some serious questions/concerns regarding his reliability, effort, and work eithic or the lack thereof.

he is M Vick imo

Mar 20, 2014, 11:37 AM

might do well at first but D's will crush him later.

Not even

Mar 20, 2014, 11:46 AM

Vick was much faster and had a much stronger arm. And, he was about 6' or 6'1 so 2-3 inches taller than Johnny as well.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Re: Not even

Mar 20, 2014, 12:13 PM

So Johnny is 5'9"? Better let the NFL teams know because he measured 5' 11 3/4" at the combine and was the only QB they did not round his height up to an even number so he should be listed at 6'. Tajh was measured at 6' 3/4" and was rounded up to 6'1".

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

6'1 - 5'11 = 2 inches

Mar 20, 2014, 12:51 PM

I'm hoping you're just having a bad day.

Re: 6'1 - 5'11 = 2 inches

Mar 20, 2014, 2:49 PM [ in reply to 6'1 - 5'11 = 2 inches ]

No, you said Vick was 6' or 6'1" so if he is 6' and Johnny's height would have been rounded up as was heights for players such as Tajh, as I noted, he would have also been 6'. 6' = 6' same height as Vick according to you : "Vick was much faster and had a much stronger arm. And, he was about 6'".

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Re: 6'1 - 5'11 = 2 inches

Mar 20, 2014, 3:51 PM

Wouldn't matter if Johnny ######## was 6-4 he still would not make it as an NFL QB.

badge-donor-10yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Oh I'm so sorry

Mar 20, 2014, 4:15 PM [ in reply to Re: 6'1 - 5'11 = 2 inches ]

He's only 1.75 inches taller. MY mistake. Lol. GTFO.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Re: Oh I'm so sorry

Mar 20, 2014, 10:05 PM

If your gonna try to be a smart a$$ make sure your math is right... idiot.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Great math example but Vick - Johnny = 0.25 which is what

Mar 21, 2014, 11:00 AM [ in reply to 6'1 - 5'11 = 2 inches ]

I think you were trying to reason out. Vick is 6'-0" and Johnny is 5'-11 3/4". And for what its worth, I don't think that Johnny height will be the biggest issue he will need to overcome in the NFL.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Vick has a better arm***

Mar 20, 2014, 2:57 PM [ in reply to he is M Vick imo ]

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

And he's 100% correct. Johnny, like Tebow, will go

Mar 20, 2014, 11:38 AM

down as one of the great COLLEGE QBs. He doesn't have that strong of an arm and half his game is running. He'll get broke in half doing that in the NFL.

With that said, I guess that means Cleveland will draft him.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

null

Re: And he's 100% correct. Johnny, like Tebow, will go

Mar 20, 2014, 12:18 PM

He will also have an NFL offensive line to protect him as well. Unlike Tebow, the majority of Manziels runs were scrambles because his protection broke down and not designed runs like what Tajh was doing all year. Hodge and the likes of him and Jaworski cannot except that the NFL QB mold is changing and still want to think they are the best talents to ever grace the league.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Whoa, you're the OC at both Clemson and TA&M?

Mar 20, 2014, 1:50 PM

I had no idea you called the plays for both teams. Very impressive!

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Nice try. A&M's O-line wasn't horrible for the 2 years

Mar 20, 2014, 2:02 PM [ in reply to Re: And he's 100% correct. Johnny, like Tebow, will go ]

Manziel was there. Running is at least half his game. I'm not saying he'll be a total bust, but he certainly doesn't warrant a first-round pick, imo.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

null

Re: Nice try. A&M's O-line wasn't horrible for the 2 years

Mar 20, 2014, 2:56 PM

No their line was very good all season. The defense will be better but no matter how good his line was at A&M the NFL o-line will be better as well so in my opinion those are going to cancel each other out. I just don't think he is going to get crushed by d-linemen all the time like some believe. He may struggle passing against a back field of NFL DB's or not have lucky completions where the WR goes up and gets the ball like Mike Evans has done for him but he will have more success than Tebow.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Sorta

Mar 20, 2014, 2:33 PM [ in reply to Re: And he's 100% correct. Johnny, like Tebow, will go ]

They weren't "designed" runs, but they weren't drop-back pocket pass plays where he scrambled for his life. A&M wisely played into his ability by dropping back and having him move out of the pocket giving him the chance to scramble and either run or find an open guy.

2024 orange level memberbadge-donor-20yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Doesn't matter. Speed in the NFL is a whole different level

Mar 20, 2014, 2:58 PM [ in reply to Re: And he's 100% correct. Johnny, like Tebow, will go ]

He'd still be fast, but not as fast as he was in college. Only takes a few good hits from an NFL defender to ruin your day.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Hodge doesn't get caught up in hype...

Mar 20, 2014, 11:44 AM

He assesses based how they project in the NFL

badge-donor-05yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Re: Merrill Hodge just said that Johnny Football will be

Mar 20, 2014, 11:56 AM

I competely agree, but a friend of mine who is a former Clemson and NFL Lineman thinks he will be great and has said he would have loved to block for him.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Merrill was actually saying quite the opposite

Mar 20, 2014, 12:02 PM

Said with his style of play he will get sacked very frequently in the NFL, making his O-line look bad because they will be blocking longer than they would with a traditional pocket passer. This would have a negative impact on their stats and stamina and Hodge said if the defense didn't annihilate Johnny then his own O-line would.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

I tend to agree, in college he could run around and

Mar 20, 2014, 12:06 PM

improvise but in the NFL he is going to have to work to learn schemes and what to do and when and play within the system. This is not your Fran Tarkenton NFL any more.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

And in all my 30+ years

Mar 20, 2014, 12:42 PM

NFL "Experts" are more wrong than right. QB is clearly a position that NO ONE knows who will succeed. The list of successful NFL QB's that were not highly rated by the Merle (intentional) Hodges of the world reads like War & Peace. A list of "Can't miss" QB's that have been a disaster is as long as Spurrier's tab at the local tavern.

Let's let the pro teams decide for themselves and stop giving Bozo The Great and his tribe of Idiots undue legitimacy.

Big and slow with a funky delivery.

badge-donor-15yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

But he was a pocket-passer. And your odds of making it

with that style in the NFL is much better than being a runner.

Okay, then as stated by earlier poster, ie Russell Wilson.

Mar 20, 2014, 2:47 PM

Just saying that "experts" are frequently wrong.

badge-donor-15yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Re: Okay, then as stated by earlier poster, ie Russell Wilson.

Mar 20, 2014, 4:19 PM

Yes sir, and the word Experts always leaves me with, oh really. Its laughable at best when describing talking heads or just insinuating that talking heads are EXPERTS. Those of us that are addicted to college FB are more of an expert of individual players than the talking heads could ever be. Most talking heads only repeat what they hear knowledgeable people say about what ever sport, while adding their personal twist to it. Without pointing a finger, we have a blogger at T-Net that does that same thing.

2024 orange level memberbadge-donor-15yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Russell Wilson and Drew Brees.....

Mar 21, 2014, 9:14 AM [ in reply to Okay, then as stated by earlier poster, ie Russell Wilson. ]

Anyone else other than them in the last 50 years?

Uh, no.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

I simply said experts are frequently wrong ...

Mar 21, 2014, 10:20 PM

... which they are.

They were wrong about Phillip Rivers.

You said that didn't count.

So, I said, well okay, then they were wrong about Russell Wilson.

Now, you say that doesn't count either. Nor Drew Brees if I should choose to bring him up, LOL.

Okay what about Ryan Leaf? Demarcus Russell? Heath Schuler? Andre Ware?

And those are just a few QBs the experts were wrong about.

badge-donor-15yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

I've said it before that howie manziel is an injury waiting

Mar 20, 2014, 2:38 PM

to happen and will be an expensive stationary-bike rider if anyone picks him. He wouldnt last 2 mos in real games and his real asset was the folks that caught his passes.

Clowney could be special but he's too arrogant to try and see.

Johnny Football could not throw it into the ocean standing knee deep!

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Mar 20, 2014, 9:58 PM

I think he passes the ball pretty well but maybe that's why no one pays for my opinion! ;)

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Re: Merrill Hodge just said that Johnny Football will be

Mar 21, 2014, 9:11 AM

Said that you can't win with Tebow either. He also said Brian Brohm would be better than Aaron Rodgers

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Loved hearing him say the truth. Manziel might be 4th or 5th

Mar 21, 2014, 12:16 PM

QB in reality. His vacant-lot antics will be a joke in the pros. Bortles, Bridgewater, Boyd, and (pick random qb) should be the qb order, though Bridgewater isn't as good as Boyd in my biased mind.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Re: Loved hearing him say the truth. Manziel might be 4th or 5th

Mar 21, 2014, 10:08 PM

Hahahahahahahaa

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Running 5WR set with mostly vertical routes

Mar 21, 2014, 2:28 PM

Isn't necessarily a designed run play. It is more of a "probably best if you run it" play. Especially when he had all day to decide behind the monsters on his OL.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Re: Merrill Hodge just said that Johnny Football will be

Mar 21, 2014, 11:19 PM

Johnny football is a thug. I dont see him being a NFL style QB, but I have been wrong before.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

So does this mean

Mar 22, 2014, 12:04 AM

I won't get to see Johnny Jumpball attempt a pass? But if you surround him with 7'0 tall wr he could just do his ballerina moves and heave a pass 50 yards or so(max distance?) down the middle of the field in to traffic. That's the style they need to adopt, "Johnny Jumpball Air Raid" takes the nfl by storm.
