But why not wait until after the season to hand out awards? I get that it could bias opinions but do the right thing not just the easy thing. Get all of the production from the season and then evaluate for these awards. It just seems ridiculous to me that individual honors are given out before the full slate of data is compiled.
I agree for CFB that would be better, but that’s how almost all sports except for European soccer seem to do it, and they do it on an annual basis not the season. Pro bowl selections are already out and other major sports have all star breaks.
All of these awards have been around a long time and they were traditionally awarded as regular season awards. The playoffs is a very new thing and obviously Deshaun Watson would’ve won two Heisman Trophy‘s if they voted after the playoffs. It will take a while and take people getting outraged and eventually it will change. But as of right now they will continue voting for awards after the regular season. But eventually they will recognize the biggest Games are played in conference championships and in the playoffs and they will change it. But it’s not gonna happen anytime soon.
