From the coach himself

Sep 14, 2020, 10:12 AM

(for those who didn't take the time to read the Tnet article article)

"I support my guys. Not everybody is going to think the same and that is never going to be the case. These are young people who have been challenged with a lot of things. They are developing young people and they came up with several different things and came up with what they wanted to do. I support them. Nobody will ever agree fully on certain things but I hope people can respect our young men, and what they believe in, and know what their different causes are that they want to bring awareness to."

My thoughts on this:
* He supports his players - not any particular movement or organization, but his players
* Never will we all agree on anything - whether it's how players choose to express themselves politically, or how they dress, or the plays that are called on the field. It'll never happen.
* They are young people, still developing and maturing, who have been challenged in their lives - challenges that many of us have never faced and will never face - and who have a high profile and an influence that they don't want to squander and they they want to make the most of, productively
* No one is expecting us to support a movement or organization - only to support the student-athletes and to respect the things that are important to them

I trust our coach and his leadership and I'm proud of the student-athletes for trying to use their platform to make a positive difference in their communities and in the world. I don't agree with it all, and that's ok. Don't think for a second that they don't know all of the reactions that fans and the public might and did have. But they did it anyway, because it's what they believe in. I'm not going to push back on that. I think they've conducted themselves with class and maturity and for that, I'm very proud of them and support them as well.

Sep 13, 2023, 1:37 PM

about all this garbage....

Football is back! I understand during the offseason having all this discussion b/c what else was there? but now we have a football team. The moment these topics go away is the moment we'll all be happy. So if you're spending all day on TNET or on Facebook protesting the protesters..well guess what, you're extending the conversation and making it louder... Just watch football! TAlk football!

If they wear a sticker, fine...screw it. Arguing about it will not do anything but give it legs. Football folks...lets change it up.

challenges in there young life you say?

Sep 14, 2020, 3:54 PM

i would normally give you the benefit of the doubt BUT with social media and the net kids can
investigate for themselves now whether or not they choose to believe what an organization like blm or antifa states on there website which they state there intentions and it aint about black lives.
its about anarchy and the overthrow of america.

they also need to look at statistics of people who are shot or killed by police and white folks outnumber them.

m advice to you yong folk is do what a cop tells you to do! dont smart off dont walk off dont act like you going for a weapon just do what they ask.

go tigers!

It's Facebook and Twitter and Instagram's world now .
Particularly affected are the soft minded , opinionated people who have either no desire or lack the ability to fact check the things they are seeing on the innerwebs .
They tend to watch or read the news that suits their particular world view , stay in the circles of people who parrot that same ideology and they generally seem displeased with anything outside of that bubble they've constructed ( Or maybe more aptly had carefully constructed for them ) .
Sometimes in life you have to take a flier and go outside of your comfort areas , ask questions that you may get disturbing or unsatisfactory answers on ... be willing to admit that what you previously believed may be somewhat flawed or just completely erroneous .
Social Media is really a great thing in most instances , but in the world of let's stick together .... I remember the words of old Sam Clemens " If you find yourself in the majority , it may be time to pause and reflect " .

Everyone that has walked on this planet (even Dabo), with the exception of Jesus Christ, have made mistakes and misjudgements. I think Dabo should support his players but he also has an obligation to make sure they understand what they are supporting and it is not against the foundation of this country. Supporting a Marxist/Communist/Socialist organization is not the way to do it.

We will all get through this.

Thank you, o2b. One of the most well-stated and non-judgmental posts I've seen on TNet for quite some time.Thank you, especially, for reaffirming the difference between supporting a "movement" and supporting "student-athletes." Trying to clarify what BLM did mean or should mean is like trying to put toothpaste back in the tube after everyone has had a good squeeze!

Let's Go Tiger Student-Athletes! Be strong! Be courageous!

Good for Dabo. He should publicly support his players.

Sep 14, 2020, 7:44 PM

There are several reasons why he should, including:

-He cares about them
-He sees that this is important to them
-They are doing it in a peaceful and respectful way
-He cares about his job

Let's be honest, Dabo has no choice but to support them enthusiastically. If he stood back and didn't support them, he would be criticized. If he publicly spoke out against his players or what they are saying, he would lose this team, lose future recruits, and perhaps ultimately lose his job.

Anyone here who is surprised by Dabo's stance on this hasn't been paying attention, and hasn't thought through this.

There comes a time when you character and what you stand for is more important than selling out to keep you job. I am not saying this is what Dabo is doing. I do think he and many other HC’s are endanger of losing their teams. The players are leveraging themselves to be in a position to demand more and more.

You can support your players without caving in to their demands. He could support his players without allowing them to wear stickers during games. The game belongs to the fans as much as anybody especially since our money makes the football program possible. Does Dabo have any responsibilities to the fan’s??

Now I want to see what Dabo will do once the players start getting paid. He made it clear he would find something else to do besides coaching if this happens.

Don’t get me wrong I want Dabo at Clemson running the program but not entitling his players.

I am not going to TD anyone’s post regarding this issue, but I disagree with Dabo or any other coach who supports players putting patches of protest on any part of there uniform. If it’s for the death of a teammate, coach or special etc I am ok with that.

Some of these kids don’t even know what they are protesting. Where adult leadership is needed they are letting the kids take over.

We have put the athletes on pedestal now they want to run the show. They want the free education and all the goodies that come with playing football for a major university, along with getting paid for their likeness apparel sales etc..

My money want be supporting them. If you think I am a bad fan and not loyal to my team that’s your opinion. My opinion is these kids should not be protesting using my money to help promote their cause. Let them protest while not participating in school activities.

Your Asterisk/bullet points . . .

Sep 14, 2020, 8:52 PM

The second one is irrelevant. The complaints are substantive in and of themselves, the complaints and disagreements are not based on the assertion that everyone has to agree on everything all the time. That's nothing but a smokescreen on Dabo's part to dispense with the disagreement itself.

3 & 4 simply aren't entirely true. The idea they, on the whole have faced challenges uncommon to the rest of us is a joke. Football players aren't the only ones saddled with existential problems, death, sickness, poverty, fame, etc. What a joke.

4 is a bait and switch. If we don't have to support a particular movement, then let's not pretend that we are "not supporting" the players when we criticize or express distaste for *their* support of a particular movement. If it is going to be asserted that our disagreement with them is a refusal to support them as people and players and representatives of the university, then it seems that we *are*, functionally/in essence, being asked to support a particular movement. If truly we aren't being asked to, then our criticism of their defense of that movement can and will be allowed to stand without the false implication that that equates to us no supporting them as players and students.

I accidentally gave you a TU while looking to see who had voted. I have no beef with you, I just don't agree with what we are being told. The fundamental principle here, is which is more important, football or freedom and the future of the United States of America.

young players are being fooled into supporting under the guise of Leftists who supposedly are caring about black lives.

Question...the BLM organization has received billions from corporations over the last few years, where are the black lives it has helped directly with that money??? Where are the houses for homeless black people? Where are the BLM scholarships for young black boys and girls? And I will say, perhaps they exist somewhere and I missed it, but it certainly has not been widely publicized. What has been shown however is that Democrat funding organization Act Blue has directly been recieving donations made to the BLM orgnization suggesting the whole movement is just another Democrat Party fundraising scam!

Dabo should do whatever he thinks best for his team, but he could also use this as a teaching moment to teach his young men not to be taken in by the Leftist scams Democrats are so known for as well!
