I'm in the wrong business, NewSpring brought in $51M in 2013

Aug 21, 2014, 4:20 PM

I'd love to see a tithing breakdown. How much came from Clemson University staff and players?

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

If all 23,000 or so weekly attendees gave 10%

Aug 21, 2014, 4:22 PM

They'd probably have even more.

Anyway, here's their report from last year: https://newspring.cc/annualreport#page-ycog

I wonder which figure is greater:

Aug 21, 2014, 4:24 PM

the amount from that $51M that went to actually helping people, or the salaries of Perry Noble's personal bodyguard staff.

How much went to hookers and blow?***

The report says they spent 69% on missions, operations, and new church plants. I guess it depends what you consider "actually helping people."

Here's another large church's annual report for comparison

Aug 21, 2014, 4:52 PM

This one's in NYC, where incomes should be higher, but also where people are more transient and less likely to make a church their "home church."

http://www.redeemer.com/learn/about_us/current_annual_report/

Their total income was around $22 million last year, but they only have 5200 members and they draw around 5,000 people every Sunday.

2024 white level memberbadge-donor-10yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

The other 16 million on staffing. Lulz.

Aug 21, 2014, 5:36 PM [ in reply to Re: I wonder which figure is greater: ]

With a bunch of volunteers.

2009_nascar_champ.gif flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

That's around $2200 a person.

Aug 21, 2014, 4:25 PM [ in reply to If all 23,000 or so weekly attendees gave 10% ]

Taking into account kids and households in that number, it's a solid average.

2024 white level memberbadge-donor-20yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

It is, just saying, it's probably not 10% of their income

Aug 21, 2014, 4:33 PM

So it's not like people at that church are giving ridiculous amounts of money to the church.

2024 white level memberbadge-donor-10yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

50 million is a ridiculous amount.***

2009_nascar_champ.gif flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

It's a lot, but not for a church that size

Aug 21, 2014, 4:39 PM

That was my only point. Assuming their 24,000 "owners" (which is a stupid name for a church member) are making the median income in SC (my guess is they make more than that, considering where their campuses are), if they all tithed, the church's income would be over $100 million.

As tdrake said, though, the $40 million they take in in tithes is still around $2000 given every year by each "owner."

2024 white level memberbadge-donor-10yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

It appears as though young cultists followers are poor.

Aug 21, 2014, 4:44 PM

Or, Lord Noble cannot convince the "owners" to tithe faithfully.

2009_nascar_champ.gif flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

That wouldn't jibe with what a lot of people say here

Aug 21, 2014, 4:56 PM

which is that he must be bilking all of these people out of tons of money. I just posted the financial report from another well respected church above, but this one's in NYC and led by a much more intellectual pastor. They've only got 5200 members, but they have around half the income. So I don't think Newspring, relative to its size, is exceptional when it comes to "taking people's money."

I guess you could argue that the "seeker friendly" church model of Newspring might lead to less of a feel of real membership, and thus less giving. I'm not sure it's a particularly good criticism of them that they're ministering to poor people, though.

2024 white level memberbadge-donor-10yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

LoL..."ministering"

The Bible clearly warns us of false prophets.

Not the largest benefactor of universities, hospitals, and other charities in the world.

I'm still confused about what Religion is, though.
