Libs couldn’t just wait a year and vote him out.

Oct 7, 2019, 6:43 PM

Had to go with impeachment now. Trumps’ campaign got $15 Million in donations in the first 72hrs after Pelosi’s initial statement. Attempting to undo a legitimate election with political motivations isn’t just energizing the republican base, it’s getting all kinds of Americans fired up.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

I am all for that myself.

Oct 7, 2019, 6:49 PM

But I think impeachment proceedings, doomed in the Senate or not, would drive The Donald into an entirely new level of crazy and that would be fun to watch.

You should get out more. No, it isn't. And that's the point you keep missing.

It's not getting "all kinds of Americans fired up" about anything.

It's getting just two kinds of people fired up - the rich, and uneducated white guys who are his base...and who he's taking for a ride by playing to their anger at the "elites" - even though he's the poster boy for the elite! - and convincing that it's Johnny Mexican, a Deep State conspiracy, and "Liberal Socialists" who are real enemies of America.

Of course the mega-rich are throwing mass amounts of cash at him now that he's in trouble. They want the gravy train he's giving them to keep on coming.

As for all the "other kinds of Americans", they pretty much hate the guy's guts more with each passing day.

I'm not rich and unless you say a Clemson grad...

Oct 7, 2019, 7:46 PM

of the 1980s is uneducated...

That attitude of only the rich and uneducated is how hillary lost the first go around. Deplorable, despicable, irredeemable didn't work because we are immutable.

You shouldn't demonize people who can make or break your candidate. Trump goes after political figures, he has the good sense not to go after the voter with such insults to their integrity and intelligence.

I know your frustration, I felt it during Obama's second term. I couldn't face the obvious, the fact that nothing was going to prevent a second term.

You'll get over it in about five years.

Re: I'm not rich and unless you say a Clemson grad...

Oct 7, 2019, 8:21 PM

Oh, Hillary's arrogance buggered her good. It's exactly why I sat out 2016; I couldn't stomach Trump but Hillary - especially Hillary with a Republican Congress - was going to be a total fiasco as well. It was going to take a lot for me to vote Democrat for the first time ever...and Hillary was certainly not the person who was going to inspire me to cross that line.

But the odds are not with Trump in 2020.

Most presidents work to expand their base once they reach office. Trump hasn't. He's just antagonized anyone who isn't part of his base and made a laundry list of completely unnecessary enemies along the way. His support has in fact remained steady among two groups and two groups only - the wealthy, and white males without college degrees. In all other demos he's underwater, hence the comment. (Not a judgment call.) A disproportionate number of his "base" is also older - the median age of a Trump voter in 2016 was 67 years of age...which is exactly why he was down in the Villages in Florida this week, stumping to his base.

Nobody argues Trump can't excite his base, or that they don't turn out for him. He obviously does and they do. The problem - again and again and again is that he's badly underwater with every demo that's not rich folks or white guys without college degrees and he hasn't even tried to fix the problem. I don't think he wants to - antagonizing the opposition, in fact, is very much what his base loves about Trump; he isn't going to suddenly get more reasonable now!

So that roughly-42% approval rating he's maintained almost since he took office not only isn't going to get him re-elected - it'll get him crushed, actually - it's also probably his ceiling. And that's in a perceived "good" economy.

Where does he go for more votes?

“Underwater” is quite the relative term

Oct 7, 2019, 8:37 PM

He won in 2016 with 9% of the black vote and 30% of the Hispanic vote.

Those numbers have increased to 25-ish and 50% respectively in recent polling.

I’ll flip the question—-how do Dems win when Trump is far less “underwater” with historically Democrat
demographics than he was in the last election?

Because those numbers are a complete pipe dream, and seem more than a little akin to those phantom brigades Hitler and his cronies were moving around the map as the Allies closed in on Berlin in 1945. Rasmussen has produced some weird numbers lately but the rest of them are right about in line with where Trump was in 2016.

The reality out on the street seems even worse. I truthfully have no idea who those 9% of blacks or 25% of Latinos are who can stand Trump; I certainly haven't met any of them. And 25% and 50%?

You have got to be kidding me...and it also lets me know exactly how many black people and Latinos you know.

42% approval has nothing to do with who will choose...

Oct 8, 2019, 10:50 AM [ in reply to Re: I'm not rich and unless you say a Clemson grad... ]

Trump over an unnamed candidate at this point. Imo, you're trying hard to convince yourself that Trump is going to lose.

When all the focus goes to one of the dem candidates and their rhetoric is compared to Trump record on economics, foreign and domestic affairs along with everything else he's done and the promises he's kept you'll get a clearer picture of his chances of a second term.

Joe is in hot water over Ukraine, Sanders just had a heart attack and Warren was just caught in a second lie involving her manufacturing of victimhood. She has stolen a minority's identity and been strewing the lie that she was fired for being pregnant from a teaching job. The school board has published Warren resignation and it's was accepted with regret. They offered her a contract for another year.

When the others move toward the front of the line they will get the equal media attention.

Oct 7, 2019, 8:25 PM [ in reply to I'm not rich and unless you say a Clemson grad... ]

I know many very educated people, typically worked hard however long their careers, who are sick and tired of the Welfare Democrat mindset and the NewSocialists who are propagating income redistribution, free college, Medicare for all and all this nonsense that America cannot afford.
Trump’s far from an ideal candidate, but at least he has the right policies!

a qualified candidate, dressing him/her up for being a president, and push that thought for teh next year.

Seems like it would be better to groom one or two people, dress them up for national exposure, and push them to get what they want done, rather than try and turn off a whole group of voters who just want to go to work and raise their families. Most people aren;t into all this crap that much, and just see it as another sour grapes investigation.

Doesn't make sense to me.

'Russia is a gas station.' America is one of their best customers not because we buy their oil but because our extensive use of oil raised demand and allows Russia to enjoy charging more for their product.

The dems are running on ending petro burning engines.

Putin is speaking in tongues right now.

Funny seeing this after getting boat raced in the house

Oct 8, 2019, 2:23 PM

"The Democrats also won the popular vote by a margin of 8.6%, the largest margin on record for a party that previously held a minority in the House. Turnout was the highest for a midterm election in more than a century, with over half the electorate casting ballots."

Most American citizens do not want Trump.
