So now that I'm getting that golf bug again...

I'm thinking of buying irons, any wreckomendations?
I have Ping G5s, which are old enough to drive.
5 handicap, no strong preferences or brand loyalty, like the look of a blade, ball striking is one of my strengths. Left handed clubs though.

most definitely older than you. Still have 'em in my garage. They're sized for his 5'9" frame, so my swing will probably always be a mess.

To be fair, I'm probably closer to a 10 right now.

Considering my last 20 rounds span 6 years right now, it's lagging, last couple rounds are 83, 78, 82, with a 28 at a par 3 course, none were super difficult.
But getting back into it and will start practicing again, have a range pretty close to my house.

My advice:

Go to Top Golf and steal the club you need on each trip. A good 7 or 8 trips and you have a set!

irons for about $1,250, which he got. His club head speed was 100 MPH. He loves them, but he just started playing after the Covid hit. He had an old set of Ping Eye 2s prior to that.
Young fellow has such a sweet swing. I am jealous.

I am worst of all time giving club advice....

been playing golf 40 years, only had 2 sets of irons ever, if you don't count the half-set (odd number irons only) of hand-me-downs that I originally learned to play with well enough to convince my parents to buy me a full set. Both Hogan forged blades - the hard stuff (lol). Woods and wedges are about the only things I have actively tested and upgraded over the years. And longiron hybrids (highly recommend a 2 or 3 hybrid, so easy to hit).
My take-or-leave advice: It's the feel, not the technology. A club that feels good in your hand is way better for YOU than some slick, trendy-brand, wallet-emptier. Example: My sand wedge is a 70's-vintage First Flight (a freaking K-Mart brand). It's what I grew up with learning my short game. Original finally de-laminated/de-grooved into un-usability, but I miraculously found a like-new exact model on Ebay for like $25. I've used dozens of others over the years, but it's the only wedge that ever truly fit my eye exactly right. Don't care that it's a KMart special when I'm tapping in a gimme it provided me.
One other item I can offer: Ben Hogan has reinvented itself and now markets all-new clubs, website-only. I bought the GS53 driver last year, which I love, can mash it. I hear tell that the irons are crackin' too. They sure look good.

This post made me think about old my clubs are.

Definitely learners permit. I think I got my taylormades in ‘05, maybe? Driver is probably 7-8 years old.
Every year, I contemplate getting a new set. Then every year, I play once or twice at most, and can’t justify spending a hefty chunk for something that won’t be used.

all my life changes the past 5 years. Now I'm starting to pick it back up and will probably get back to ~40 rounds a year, so might be time.
