have not been yet. I've heard nothing but good things though including some friends that went last Sunday for brunch and liked it so much they went back their for dinner later that night.

So we ended up going to The Anchorage for dinner.

Apr 6, 2017, 8:59 AM

Nice spot in the West End.

Highly recommend, but not if you don't like vegetables. Meat is on the menu and used to add flavor but veggies are the stars.

It's one of these small dish places where you order 2-3 things each.

We had ceviche and Korean beef fried rice, both excellent. Also roasted turnips, radish salad, roasted carrots and sweet potatoes were all very good.

Dessert game was strong. Full bar.

Two of us had full dinner with drinks and dessert, bill was about $100 + tip (he earned both dollars).

This pretty much sums up advice-asking in general.

Apr 6, 2017, 12:59 PM

Person asks advice.

Gets some clearly lousy advice.

Gets some pretty darn good advice.

Goes and does something completely different, quite possibly what they had intended to do all along.

Advice requests are the most rhetorical exercises in existence.

TBH, I tried so hard to break this cycle. In fact, I was

Apr 6, 2017, 1:12 PM

ready to go to Hall's like 14 suggested, but birthday girl wasn't in a steak mood.

Most of the other good suggestions like Sassafrass and Chicora we'd been to recently. American Groc is good but seems to be way more expensive than it should be.

If nothing else, I had some suggestions on the tip of my tongue when we got down to deciding.

Bocca, on Poinsett Highway. Out of the way, easy parking, great food, and a real Italian guy with a ponytail coming around to ask about your food.

better or worse than original Capri's? Vince P's?

2024 orange level memberbadge-donor-20yr.jpgringofhonor-obed.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Food better than Capri's

Apr 6, 2017, 3:09 PM

but atmosphere of an Old Pizza Hutt since that's what it was for the first 20 something years of my life.

Went there. Food was top notch, but service was more awkward than the weird sechsy jazz that was overly loud in the background. Was expecting a family restaurant since it is an old pizza hutt, but nothing at all for the kids to eat.

My experience there was far less than stellar but the food was good, albeit overpriced.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Better than Capri's, but Capri's was great value.

Apr 6, 2017, 3:22 PM [ in reply to From one Greenvillian to another..... ]

I didn't eat as many meals at Vince Perone's, but I would say probably a smidgen better. This guy's a great cook, and his personality really sells the place. Nice bar, too.
