Just some Friday Political Talk....

Aug 18, 2017, 11:42 AM

So this last week has sparked another movement to move and try to re-write our Southern History and Southern Heritage. I am a proud Southerner who finds it very disturbing that the left is always trying to use race as a way to get what they want and promote their agenda. Was slavery a horrible thing that happened? Yes. Do I agree with the removal of statues, renaming parks, buildings and etc.? Heck no. No matter what you can't change history. If that's the case, let's do away with African American History, Native American History and etc.

Removing this things will change nothing. As my president stated, who will be next? I agree with him, when will it stop? When they left has removed everything and gotten their way? If that's the case, let's remove the tomb of the unknown soldiers, I'm sure that's offensive to the Vietnamese that live in this country. Let's remove our WWII monuments, I'm sure that's offensive to Japanese and German Americans that live here. It seems in today's time it is only one side and one race that stirs up the trouble and can't get out of the past. Just my two cents on this Friday.

agree!!!... i was just discussing this earlier today at work... even if you remove every statue, flag, monument, etc... what does that change?.. nothing!

racism is not a material thing that is hanging on a pole, or erected on a base... it's a mindset, and as long as the left uses it to further their agenda.. it'll never get better, ... only worse.

You hit the nail on the head. I am just sick and tired of it. Thing is, the left finally was able to elect a black and I use that term loosely because we all know he was mixed....however, look at the racial divide that happened under his 8 years of being the president. He did everything in his power to ruin this country from the inside and out. Obama is sitting back laughing now. This issues sure weren't a problem when Bush was in or Clinton before him.... just funny how all of a sudden Obama is in and this is all brought to light.

I'm not against removal based on "what might come next", I'm against what's being removed now. While I understand there are some folks that choose to see nothing other than a negative viewpoint with regard to those memorials, there are also others that see them as nothing but honorable. Does their view not count? There are a number of things the I don't particularly like in our country, but the way we have unity is to either accept those things, or just look the other way. Is it right for me to force a narrow viewpoint that I may have on others? No. Neither is it right for such a viewpoint to be forced upon me.

maybe I should clarify when I meant to say public park. I am against removing statues and monuments dedicated to the civil war. But when you have a park named after and celebrating the emancipation of slaves, then 60 years later someone decides to erect a statue of Robert E lee in the same park, I do not think people have the right to question the city council when they vote to take it down another 70 years down the road.

I just may disagree on where those limits are placed. I don't believe in public Nazi memorials, flags, "honor" or "pride."

If we are going to keep these monuments up, they should at least use words like "traitor, treason, defender of slavery."

Removing a statue doesn't 'rewrite' anything. It merely removes an object of misplaced veneration of a particular part of history.

The history stays the same. If it were erasing history books, then you might have a point.

If I junk my old Chevy, it doesn't 'rewrite' the history of Chevrolet.
