Joe Burrow potentially unfair advantage

Jan 15, 2020, 1:33 PM

Towards the end of the championship game - the announcements started to talk about the fact that Burrow was enrolled as an online student at LSU and spent practically all of his time at the football facilities studying game tape and working with coaches.

According to the article below, Justin fields at Ohio State did the same thing. It's really stretching the definition of a college athlete when you never step foot on campus IMHO.

Justin Fields said he had never even been on campus. But remember, they don't go there to school!

Exactly. I don't think it would be out of line restricting them from taking online courses.

Justin Fields is the bigger stretch. As a sophomore, I would think classes would still be required. With the proliferation of online degrees, I guess it's hard to distinguish.

Burrow was a grad transfer after getting his degree from OSU. A unique situation for a guy with his talents to last 5 years.

Christian Wilkins did basically the same thing, right?

The 2019 LSU team was better than the 2019 Clemson team on January 13th 2020. Nothing more nothing less. Has nothing to do with classes or cash or cigars or anything else.

Jan 15, 2020, 1:49 PM

Not saying that applies to Burrow, but how do you really stop the kids taking online classes from doing them with a tutor sitting next to them?

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

This is the part I don’t get. I bet all these guys taking

Jan 15, 2020, 2:08 PM

Online classes have great grades and would score at the bottom nationally on grad school entry exams.

Betting lots of players take online classes

Manzel did the same thing. It's just another way the system

Jan 15, 2020, 2:17 PM

is gamed. UNC didn't even HAVE classes, much less online.

Too bad there isn't a governing body that is supposed to make sure college athletes are also colledge students...cough...cough...
