Not that I think there is even the remotest chance this

happens ESPECIALLY if the rumors about them wanting to force the new coach to keep Kevin Steele as DC are true.
But wouldn't that be the ultimate Karmic irony? Brent Venables is Head Coach, over the DC whose job he took when he arrived at Clemson?
Venables would need Steele like a fish needs a bicycle.

Auburn fans are in full desperation mode. Throw a name out and some fans are eager to hire him.
Urban Meyer, Bob Stoops, Jason Garrett, Chip Kelly, Chris Peterson.
Some think that they are a top five program and everyone should want to come. Others think they are a lost cause and will have to beg anybody to come.
I would be shocked, completely shocked, if Venables and Auburn had any conversation other than someone from Auburn talking to his agent and saying, "Hey, if we were interested in talking to him, would he be interested in having a pleasant conversation?"

They are good program and can pay a fortune. That's somewhere between being top five and begging.

I’m hoping for Kate Beckensale under my tree Christmas morning waiting to be unwrapped, but I’m not waking up early...

At this point Auburn is just looking for a warm body to say yes. This is looking worse than when the Coots finally hired Muschump.

Maybe they should just go after Muschump. Looks like the only choice now.

Like what exists in recruiting. After the championship game, have at them. The same rumors and inquiries that come up every year before the playoffs are exhausting.

for 2 years. Its a great job on the surface but I'd wait til Saban retires and the power struggle there with the behind the scenes boosters makes it a job to avoid...for anyone with sense. Of course, getting a guarantee for 4-5 years and a multi-million dollar payday at the end of the rainbow regardless of outcome....thats pretty good too.

Could you imagine being a DC for a team coached by Venables?

perspective. I'd say right now, they can reasonably expect to be fighting for no better than 3rd in the SEC West. They ain't catching Bama or A&M anytime soon, and LSU will recover quickly. They are blinded by the flash-in-the-pan Scam Newton championship and a few extremely lucky wins like the Miracle On The Plains and the Kick Six. A coach can go there and do a pretty good job, like Malzahn, and be on the hotseat almost immediately. It's a career killer.
