For those who went to the game, how rowdy was Doak Walker?

Oct 30, 2016, 8:59 PM

Compare it to DV.

I copied/ pasted this from earlier post of mine (too lazy to retype):

I got back around 4 this afternoon. There were a few curse words in our direction but that was it. We parked about a mile from the stadium and walked directly to car and back to hotel without any incident.

What surprised me is how quiet ( compared to DV) it was. On tv it seems so much more intimidating. Well placed mics I guess. Stadium just too wide and open to hold sound in. Awesome brick facade on outside, inside not exactly matching. Metal pipes and bracing everywhere.

Overall a good experience, made great by win.

Go Tigers!

I always thought inside looked like the guts of an aircraft carrier.***

So did any Tigers try to pick fights with the Seminoles

Oct 30, 2016, 9:17 PM [ in reply to I always thought inside looked like the guts of an aircraft carrier.*** ]

...when they finally made their much anticipated grand entrance before the game? Seriously doubt Dabo would go for that. Seems like every time they come to DV, they try to pick fights as we come down The Hill. Neon Deion was the first I remember doing it in '88.

Thanks, I thought it would have been louder than what you described.

I agree. I was surprised by how the little noise there was compared to Death Valley. Agree also with how it looked in the concessions area underneath the stands. The comparison below to the inside of an aircraft carrier is accurate. Kind of felt like a prison too.

Ha! It felt like a prison for a reason. Getting them ready for the future.

1989...pre-renovation, we were chanting

"High school stadium" before the game. Stadium was A Pos, but then. I'm guessing they built around the pos

i wasn't there, but saw an FSU media member

tweet that there was a lack of energy at tailgates and in the stadium compared to what they typically would have for a game like this. Don't know if having already lost 2 games before last night had their fans down or what, but apparently it wasn't as hype last night

Almost as rowdy as the roach for umass

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Commented to some around me, not even close to DV

Oct 30, 2016, 9:33 PM

The war chant doesn't come close to the volume of our combined screaming and clapping.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

in 1989 trip there it was smallish inside & no brickwork outside

And sat in a typical high school-like end zone.

Didn't matter at the time since with Clemson Soph Son , having fun yelling our lungs out watching Terry Allen & Team rout them 1st half!

Not as loud as Death Valley. Haven't been to many college stadiums, but my kids and I agreed that the FSU fans just seemed pretty mild and subdued for most of the game. That may have been due to their ('lowered') enthusiasm or expectations after a couple losses by 'their preseason top 3 team'.

However, each of the interceptions, along with taking the lead got them REALLY energized - and loud. I was impressed how our Tigers really did well in spite of the noise and the tomahawk chop/chant. But still, I didn't think it as loud as Death Valley.

Some other observations in comparison to DV:

1. They do something with the jumbotron during pregame where they show players from each team while warming up, giving some key stats, streaks, trends, etc. for the player(s). In my opinion, that was much better than what we do in DV.

2. Also, during warmups, we noticed a LOT of people gathered along the field and along the back of the end zone. My first thought was prospects/recruits or players family day perhaps, but then saw the reference on the jumbotron (advertising?) for a 'Field Access Season Pass' - and assume FSU fans can buy a pass to get on the field during warmups. Interesting concept, but sure seemed to restrict the players 'freedom of movement'.

Whatever choice(s) you make makes you. Choose wisely.

How do you compare it to Williams-Brice?

Oct 31, 2016, 3:26 AM

I've been to WB, but not DC. Hopefully, a fair assessment without any bias or hatred. :)

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Much less than DV

Oct 30, 2016, 9:43 PM

For the first 10 minutes until the first pick it was silent as we scored 14. The pick gave them a pulse. Picked up a bit as they scored but even at the peak in key situations, it was considerably quieter than DV.

I'll have to say thought the Noles I ran into at the hotel, in restaurants and before, during and after the game were all good hosts. One at the end told me, good luck on the rest of the season and now go win it all.

We were on the field pregame and it was very loud. At times during the game when the war chant was rolling, I thought it was pretty intimidating. Made the hair on the back of my neck stand up.

I thought that the Clemson presence by percentage of total fans was the smallest that I've observed at any away game this year or last (and I've been to all of them), but the Clemson fans there were loud and proud.

We parked close to the stadium and didn't have any problems with fans prior or after the game.

We observed a real log jam at gates over an hour prior to kickoff with very slow ticket processing. In the 10 minutes we were inside the gate, we observed 4 different fans (looked like students) have their tickets rejected. Police escorted them out. We thought they were having a big issue with counterfeit tickets, but that was just our suppositions based on what we observed.

I agree it took forever to get in to the stadium. Very poorly ran by event staff. When we finally got in after 45 minutes the guy at the gate with thousands waiting was literally talking on the phone with one hand and I know my ticket wasn't scanned properly but I just kept moving since I didn't want to miss kickoff.

Actually, the great Doak Walker has been dead for decades.

Lol.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

It was okay.

Oct 31, 2016, 1:06 AM

It really didn't get loud until they took a lead. This was the case in 2012 and 2014 as well, both of which I attended. Seems like they're very much fairweather and only stand and get loud when it's going well.
