Is there any reason to wait to purchase a plane ticket?

Jan 30, 2020, 11:37 AM

I don't fly super often, but read where tickets are cheapest between 60 and 90 days out.

Looking to going to Orlando with the fam in June (thoughts and prayers). One of the flights I had my eyes on already ticked up $15 per person.

I'm not convinced these things are gonna decrease. Looking at Southwest.

If you want real cheap, fly Allegiant or Frontier

Jan 30, 2020, 11:45 AM

May not fit your schedule, but it real cheap.

Frontier is $35 round trip Mar 12 - Mar 15 (THURS-SUN)***

Yeah... for my dates, Allegiant could work. But with

a few carry on bags and a checked bag, checked stroller... it was actually gonna be about the same deal as Southwest.

If it was just me, that would've been a steal for sure.

pro tip...

there's no reason not to buy Southwest. If the ticket price goes down, they'll refund the difference.

The only other reasons I can think of is that its Southwest,

zero reason to wait out pricing for a drop.

Other than terrible seating, even business, cancellations and hardly any non-stops.....yeah it’s awesome.

Delta or don’t fly

I've never flown Southwest, but this was a good time/nonstop

Jan 30, 2020, 1:02 PM [ in reply to Re: pro tip... ]

And one of my buddies swears by Southwest. Says they do family boarding, etc and are super helpful. yada yada

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

As long as you remember to check in 24 hours in advance

Jan 30, 2020, 4:06 PM [ in reply to Re: pro tip... ]

Southwest is a much better experience than Delta imo...you'll get a seat towards the front of the plane and it boards much faster than Delta because of the free checked bags and you don't have all of these animals who have Zone 2 and 3 on Delta and start crowding in line trying to race to get a bin.

Also Delta seems to be littered with 50+ year old, surly flight attendants who have completely mailed it in on the customer service front.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Thats just crazy talk.

Jan 30, 2020, 4:31 PM

I mean not about the flight attendants tho (like it really even matters any more because they don't really do anything)

you don't have the cash on hand yet.

Yes.

Jan 30, 2020, 12:15 PM

Wait until some other time than June to go to Orlando.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

This is the best advice in the whole thread.***

No doubt. Out of my control.***

Jan 30, 2020, 12:58 PM [ in reply to Yes. ]

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

No, my understanding that it's cheaper in advance.

Jan 30, 2020, 12:20 PM

I'd read where they used to drop fares as it became closer to fill empty seats, but that caused people to wait to book. So they reversed it to encourage early booking. But I'm too lazy to google to confirm.

Costs are heavily based on time of year, day of week, and

time of day. Early morning flights are cheaper, as are mid-week, and off-season.

2024 white level memberbadge-donor-20yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

MickeyWorld in June? You got bigger problems than the flight costs.

Jan 30, 2020, 12:29 PM

I'd strongly suggest you opt for the annual Booger Pickin' Festival in Des Moines. You'll have more fun.

A drunk will run a STOP sign, but a stoner will wait for it to turn green.

If anybody finds themselves in Des Monies, I can direct

to some places to go.

Use a VPN to search if you have one set up.

Jan 30, 2020, 12:34 PM

Or search from a different location/IP than you searched the first time. They flag searches by IP and if you make the same search multiple times it will occasionally increase the price slightly to create the appearance of demand to you in the hopes of you worrying about availability and purchasing.

Get the Hopper app

Jan 30, 2020, 3:22 PM

You can watch certain flight dates, and it'll tell you when the best time to buy is.
