Why is the paw logo tilted?

Just read “Another subtle intricacy of the logo? The 30-degree angle represents the 1:00 p.m. kickoff typical for football games at the time.” I didn’t know this before so thought I would post.

I don’t think until maybe some time in the 80’s. Certainly none when I was there.

The paw was started in 1970 & I didn’t start watching Clemson football until 1978.

they would bring in trucks with lighting for games that kicked off after 1. And yes the paw is tilted to 1 pm.

That paw used to be straight...even...and right in the middle. Then it got tilted.

In the unlikely event that wasn’t a joke, it was never straight. Always at one o’clock, our traditional start time, until TV became more prevalent.

I seem to remember reading an article that stated the paw was tilted to give it a more dynamic look. It looks like the paw print of a tiger chasing a chicken.

was tilted because of the 1:00 kickoffs. But they said that when they made the imprint from a real Tigers paw that that was the natural angle of the tigers paw when they walk.

When originally presented it was tilted 10 degrees. It was an artistic decision at the time, and helps it stand out as a unique tiger paw verses the oodles of other sports teams. The white on orange, actual tiger paw imprint, and tilt have made it iconic. Brilliant.
When I was a freshman (74), I searched for the lowest priced Clemson t-shirt I could find. I did not find one item that did not have a paw instead of the O in Clemson. Four years after it's introduction, it was already that entrenched.
