That's a waste of money. They must run out of options.

Understatement...

Jun 29, 2020, 5:26 AM

Was an overrated waste of $ for most of his time in Charlotte; save for the 1 unexplainable, unicorn year that he was named MVP(Should have been SB MVP that year?handed Denver the trophy b4 kickoff- the Patriots & BB's NFL success is unmatched vs the (combined) success of the 3 other NFL dynasties b/c it occured in the era of SalCap & FAcy, but this is a haphazard move, though one of little consequence-maybe they're feeling the pressure from that treasonous 501c3 of chaos, division, destruction & global PROPAGANDA machine? routinely funded by muslim extremists, billionaire anarchist Soros, & white libs w/no balls; better known as BLM-

Every team in league would sign Cam for $7.5M

Jun 29, 2020, 9:06 AM [ in reply to Re: Former MVP QB Cam Newton signs 1-year deal to join Patriots ]

I get that you're probably just being facetious, but from a business standpoint it's a terrific move. I can't believe he signed for such little money.

It was probably gonna be $8.6M but the Cheatriot's cheating ways caught up to them again!

They are bargain hunters.

Sometimes it works out. Sometimes it doesn't.

If he's healthy and can return to form for a season then they got a steal and they don't have to protect him because they have nothing invested in him.

Great pick up if healthy. Thats a huge signing for them.

Yeah, if they need a backup fullback.***

In a system type offense he may do well

Jun 29, 2020, 1:15 AM

He is smart and could extend plays. New England thrives on short passes and he can do that. His deep ball will underwhelm though

That might just pave the way for Trevor to take that franchise back to the top.(Not that I care much about the Patriots, but I do want TL to succeed.)

Tiny risk for the Pats and it gives Cam a shot to sign one last big-money deal next year if he does well.

Works well for both sides.

No real downside for the Pats or Cam. If he plays well they have a chance to keep him as their franchise QB and he makes a bunch of money. If he doesn't then his career is over its cost the Pats very little.

Apparently players all across the NFL are mad

that he is ONLY getting paid the league minimum $1 Million plus many more million possible in incentives.
One player called it “disgusting.”

Two things here:

1. He didn’t have to agree to the contract.

2. If it’s so bad, this privileged old white guy will gladly trade with him.

That's the contract you get when you are hurt, whiney, and a

non-leader. Loves to celebrate when things are good. Loves to hide and pout when things are tough. Panthers will move in the right direction without him. New England just went from one end of the spectrum to the other with this move.

This will get really interesting. New England has done

Jun 29, 2020, 8:02 PM

wonders with whiney prima donnas in the past. Randy Moss comes immediately to mind. Scam may get indoctrinated into "The Patriot Way" and play lights out, if he plays at all. Who knows at this point?

It's all good right now, because in his mind, he is going to waltz right in there and take the starting job. But, if he LOSES that competition to Stidham, or heaven forbid to Hoyer, we will all see Whiney Beyotch Scam 2.0. Get the popcorn ready.

People say all the time that pro athletes don't care enough about winning and losing. So Cam Newton shows a lot of emotion and looks sad whenever his team losses, and somehow that's a huge problem? Would you like it better if he continued to celebrate while his team is losing?

They are tanking for Trevor Lawrence. Not a Patriot fan but it’s a smart move to tank for Trevor, their next franchise QB.

Even with $cam, they will not be the worst in the league.

If they want to tank, they gotta step up

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

If they really wanna tank, two words: Jamarcus Russell. Or,

Jun 30, 2020, 10:24 AM

two more words: Ryan Leaf. I think they are ranked 1-2 on the all time NFL Bust scale. Getting either one out of retirement would make your franchise sink like the Titanic, only faster.

Newton is 71-59 in his career as a starting quarterback. I wouldn't rank him as an elite quarterback with guys like Brady, Rodgers, Wilson, etc... but he's a far cry from being as bad as so many on here seem to want to make him out to be. Maybe he'd have been even better had he had any good receivers during his time there other than an aging Steve Smith.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Lol! Better not let Steve Smith hear you call him "aging".

Jun 30, 2020, 10:40 AM

He will come and lay you out. He was always a feisty little fellow, ready to rumble. :)

Re: Lol! Better not let Steve Smith hear you call him "aging".

Jun 30, 2020, 10:45 AM

He was an awesome player without a doubt, and was still making plays late in his career whenever he was healthy. One could even say that the Panthers got rid of him too early considering they never remotely found a proper replacement for him.

That's the main reason I've had a hard time blaming Newton for not winning more there. Olsen was a good weapon at tight end, and they finally added McCaffrey 2 years ago, but they probably had the worst overall group of receivers in the NFL over the time period Newton was there.
