I got one at age 50 and it saved my life

Feb 18, 2021, 2:59 PM

they found cancer when it was small and easier to cut out. If you wait for symptoms, its too late.

They changed the recommended age to 45. I would have just got a polyp snipped at age 45 and nothing else.

Whew, technology saved me from that indignity!

Feb 18, 2021, 3:29 PM

Man, how embarrassing that must have been. No, I got to keep my pride intact and shi# in a box in the privacy of my own home and then hand the heavily labeled box to the female clerk at the UPS store.

Will really only tell you if you're already ate up with butt cancer.

2024 white level memberbadge-donor-20yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

yes, the real reason for the colonoscopy is not to find

Feb 19, 2021, 4:34 AM

cancer but to snip and pre-cancerous polyps. Around 90% of colon cancer starts with non cancerous polyps. It takes about 10 years for a polyp to grow into cancer. You snip them off early and they go away. I've had 3 follow-up colonoscopies so far and have only had the one polyp. A coworker of mine had like 10 when she had hers. My 1 was >> than her 10.

Colon cancer is #2 cancer killer and totally

Feb 19, 2021, 8:00 AM

preventable with a colonoscopy. No symptoms for colon cancer. But like anything, if you want to you can convince yourself you don't need it.

Feb 18, 2021, 4:56 PM [ in reply to I got one at age 50 and it saved my life ]

With me avoiding doctors for years and then having to wait for approval from my cardiologist.

I may already be dead.

2024 white level memberbadge-donor-20yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

I haven't done it either

Feb 18, 2021, 10:49 PM

My brother is 60 and has never had it done, and he's still alive. AFAIK, noone in my family has ever had any kind of cancer.

I'm going with the averages on this one.

the new anesthesia they use is amazing. You wake up immediately. The old stuff was like a truth serum - you were groggy and answer any question.

Re: On the 5 year plan here.

I think they called it the "Michael Jackson drug". My last one was in 2016 early in the AM. Had steak and wine for supper that night. Proposed to my girl shortly after supper. Saw some friends the next morning. They asked what was new. Told em I had a colonoscopy and got engaged.

A buddy had one done and 2 weeks later came down with Cdiff

Feb 18, 2021, 10:52 PM

Was in the hospital for a 2 weeks. After that, he came down with UC that he's on a medicine for the rest of his life.

I'm not saying the colonoscopy caused all that, but its one heck of a coincidence.

Oh yeah, he didn't have any polyps or anything.
