disaster in whos eyes?

it will accomplish everything it was passed to accomplish.
It will scuttle the insurance market.
It will bring about a single payer healthcare system
It will even out accessibility to healthcare. However "evening out" will not equal increasing accessibility to everyone. to make anything equal across the board, you must decrease accessibility for some and increase it for others. Problem is, and will continue to be, those that are having accessibility. decreased are those paying the bill.
So, no in the eyes of those supporting it, it will be a overwhelming success.
For America, it will be a disaster of the likes we have not seen in several generations.

I hope you are wrong, but my fear is that you are correct.

Many of us in the US talk about the wonderfulness of the European health care system, but most on this board are young and have young friends over there.
Most of the younger people over there sing its praises. Then, they get older, and everything changes. That is what you are referring to with decreasing access. You can call it whatever you want, but you may not get a cornea transplant, heart bypasses, or hip replacement. You will most likely have to have it done in a private hospital if you have the means.

Why is it countries that have it kick #### economically?

My best example is Japanese and European (german) cars do not have the extra $1000-2000/per unit built-in for employee benefits like US automakers do.

i guess thats why BMW is in SC, Mercedes is in AL

Nissan in TN, Honda in AL, and Toyota in MS.
Not to mention Hyundai and Kia in AL.
the real tax rate including health insurance in Germany is approaching 50-60%. And most "rich" people in Germany do not go to gov. doctors, they have boutique plans much like plans that will grow here.
The rich will be taken care of (with money). The poor will be taken care of (by the government). those of us in the middle are the ones getting screwed.......as usual.

depends on how you define "disaster"
Apr 15, 2014, 7:17 AM

It will result in lower reimbursements for doctors in the long run. It will hurt the insurance industry.
But those systems were messed up before Obamacare (I'm a healthcare provider, I can assure you the system is a mess).
It will separate health insurance from work in the long run. It will make individual costs go up, but will also provide more coverage for more people.
Obamacare will be tweaked by subsequent administrations until we get something that works somewhat well. But like any entitlement program, it has to be paid for somehow and we Americans are great at burying our heads in the sand when it comes to paying the piper.

The status quo sux

At least he's trying to make a change. I've been paying medical bills for years for various injuries, illnesses, and surgeries. The current system is enough to make a sane person go crazy.
Speaking of crazy. My daughter went to see a counselor at the local hospital facility. The dr charged me $200/hr. Then the hospital charged an extra $200 for using the room for one hour. $400/hr for my kid to talk to a dr about anxiety?!
My insurance didn't pick up any of it. The bills for the "facility fee" was listed as "Dr XYZ" so I thought I was paying the Dr's bill. It wasn't until I questioned why I kept getting bill after bill that I called and figured this out. That was about $2,000 later.
I'm not going to get into how expensive surgeries are, and how high my deductibles were.

Insurance companies are the reason the charges are so high.
Apr 15, 2014, 10:01 AM
|

Insurance companies negotiate a rate of x% of the dr.s bill. To make it profitable for them, they charge 10x what it's really worth, then pass the savings on to their customers who don't have insurance. So in the end you're paying some chump's way through college because the insurance companies said they're only paying reasonable rates.
