If they decide to invoke Section 4 of the 25th...

Jan 6, 2021, 5:55 PM

...I think they have the votes. All that needs to happen now is that a majority of Trump's Cabinet needs to agree that Trump is unfit to hold office.

McConnell absolutely wants Trump gone, I promise you that. He needs to break with Trump and break with him hard or he and the GOP become complicit in this fiasco. Pence needs to break with this insanity even more. Right now I can almost promise you he and Pence are talking it over.

If Pence and McConnell decide it's time - and they're career politicians, they know how bad this looks and how bad they need to dump this mess off on Trump's head...so they're likely already doing an informal straw poll of the Cabinet.

I don't know if the "Acting" derps appointed by Trump in unconfirmed positions count (I don't think they do), but even if they do, I think Pence/McConnell have the votes should they decide to act. (Elaine Chao, for instance, is McConnell's wife!)

This is the Cabinet...and a lot of them are hard-right conservative but not actually crazy. As an aside, it's fascinating that he's elevated his own loyalists to "acting" Attorney General, "acting" SecDef, and "acting" director of Homeland Security...all of whom have been conspicuously absent in putting the gauntlet down on this craziness.

No doubt, Trump was hoping this would develop. Chaos is a ladder but I think he stepped massively over the line.

I do.

I think we're probably down to hours. I suspect he's not president by tomorrow.

Ya that ain’t happening. All the inbred nutjobs will

Jan 6, 2021, 6:06 PM

leave DC tomorrow. Congress will certify the election tonight or tomorrow, and then we will have peace finally. Not kumbaya agreement, but at least no mob riots like today. Biden will be inaugurated without issue, and we will move on.

How are we going to have peace if Trump continues to scream and yell about the election being stolen?

That's what's inciting the violence....and it's going to continue until he stops. And he won't...until he's made to.

How else can this end? Either he backs down or gets removed, and he won't back down, it's not in his DNA.

What a weird question.

Jan 6, 2021, 6:15 PM

What makes anyone think the pro-Trump terrorists breaking into the Capitol because Trump keeps telling them he was cheated out of another term has anything to do with Trump?

Once Biden takes over his supporters will give it up. They won’t agree with the results, but they’ll finally accept them once another guy is waking up in the White House.

They could do it in an hour if the necessity arises. If Pence invokes it and Congress grants it...all it takes.

You think Pelosi wouldn't say "yup"? Rioters are taking a dump in her office as we speak. Literally.

McConnell and Pence decide it's time, it's done.

Just heard on CNN that Betsy DeVos's former chief of staff Josh Venable said the 25th should be invoked. This may very well have legs.

Re: If they decide to invoke Section 4 of the 25th...

Jan 6, 2021, 7:03 PM

Yup.

Right now everybody's reeling, but the second the powers-that-be get their feet under them, it's going to be obvious what has to happen next, and who the problem is.

Trump just tried to launch a coup. Period. And "soft" and "forgiving" are not words I'd use to describe guys like Mitch McConnell and Mike Pence.

They're not going to make nice. They're going to distance themselves as comprehensively as possible from this and wash that stain off right now. Once things settle a bit you're going to see that icy look we've seen all too often in Mitch McConnell's eyes, and it's going to be directed right at Donald Trump.

What happens next is fairly predictable.

I suspect

Jan 6, 2021, 7:17 PM

practially all the Republicans hate Trump and only have pacified him because they thought that helped him politically. Now it doesn’t in my opinion. So maybe they will get rid of him, but at the same time with inauguration only 14 days away is it really worth it?
