Speaking of Dave Doeren and Nancy's Taint...

Nov 29, 2017, 3:58 PM

I just went back and reviewed their 2017 signing class....20 recruits, all 3 star. Not a single 4 star recruit and the highest ranked was #460 nationally. The 2018 class has three 4 star recruits, the highest is #150 nationally. Out of 20 hard commits, the remaining are 3 and 2 star rated. Like I said yesterday, Dave is good for an every 3rd or 4th year run, which tells me he is a decent coach but not a very masterful recruiter.

So every 3 or 4 years will be Tennessee's year?

And NCSU kind of sucks and isn't a great place to recruit to

They've never really been dominant. Even when Phillip "my couch pulls out but I don't" Rivers was there, they weren't amazing. Amato had a couple of decent years but was never going to win a natty.

Once in a while they'll sneak in a very highly rated player

IF he's an in-state product. Amato was also able to recruit Florida fairly well back in his day but he didn't exactly steal 5 star kids from UF/FSU/UM. But for the most part, Dave is basically treading water at State. If UT offers, I'm betting he's gone. As I said yesterday, it buys him a few extra years on his career as a head coach.

Plus then he won't even have to play Clemson***

If he's worried about Clemson's tactics

Nov 29, 2017, 4:12 PM

wait'll he get a load of Bammer.

In the SECE you only gotta play Bammer every 7 years

Nov 29, 2017, 4:15 PM

That's how the coots get to go to trash bowls every year. They never play Bammer or Allbarn or LSU.

UT plays Bama every year.***

Doeren recruited a little better than O'Brien at first...

Nov 29, 2017, 4:11 PM

His first full year of recruiting yielded the #30 class, then he had the #35 class the next year. His classes have gone down hill since then, though. This year's class is currently 28th, but will probably finish in the 30s unless they land some more 4-star guys. They currently only have two 4-stars committed.

The thing is, though, they can have good recruiting classes when they've got a good team and a coach who cares. Amato had a top 10 class in 2003 (not sure about 2000 and 2001, as Rivals database only goes back to 2002) and top 30 classes in 2004 and 2005.

Did he study under Steve Spurrier?***
