If, by some miracle, Bama loses, can Clemson go to #1?

Nov 30, 2016, 2:30 PM

Record (if it plays out like this):
Bama - 12-1
Clemson - 12-1

Losses:
Bama - #15 Florida (who will be ranked higher after winning a conf champ and beating Bama)
Clemson - #25 Pittsburgh

Record over CFP Top-25 teams:
Bama - 4-1 (WINS: #11 USC, #14 Aub, @#22 Tenn, @#21 LSU; LOSS: #15 Florida)
Clemson - 4-1 (WINS: @#12 FSU, #13 Lou, @#14 Aub, #23 VT; LOSS: #25 Pitt)

Record over .500+ Power-5 teams:
Bama - 7-1
Clemson - 9-1

Overall record of FBS teams played:
Bama - 85-58 - 59.44 win %
Clemson - 89-56 - 61.38 win % (assuming Troy beats GA Southern this weekend)

Conference Champion:
Bama - No
Clemson - Yes

We should be if it plays out that way, But I highly doubt it. Alabama is will still be #1 based off the "eye test".

No

Bama would have an SEC loss so by default that is like not even losing. The committee will not move them out of #1. In all seriousness unless it's a blowout loss from Florida then bama will stay at #1. No one jumps the bamababy.

GO TIGERS!!

Remember the committee and media have a soft spot for Bama and the B1G. Noticed how Michigan didn't move after losing to Iowa a few weeks ago. they are all hoping that Clemson and Washington loses this weekend so the can get Bama and 3 B1G teams in the playoffs. It is set in stone right now. The polls will remain the same as they are unless Clemson and/or Washington loses. then that spot will be replaced by B1G teams. Go Tigers.

Clemson will definitely jump Ohio St with a win over VT.
The question is who will be 3 and 4.

Possibly, if Clemson blows out VT. I wouldn't be surprised if we jumped tOSU with a win over VT.

If Bama loses, they drop to #2 or #3, but are still in.

I'd love to play in Atlanta as the #1 seed, but I feel better against tOSU than Washington.

I believe Bama will be #1 regardless...

Nov 30, 2016, 2:59 PM

they will only drop if they lose 100-0

Maybe if they use the Conference champion criteria but I highly doubt Florida will be anywhere in that game. Bama probably wins 27-10, something like that but it wont really be as close as the score shows.

bama can lose to clemson in the natty and still remain #1 because they have a better loss than clemson.
LOL

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Yes, for this reason

Nov 30, 2016, 4:02 PM

Bama has not beaten any team significantly better than we have, their loss would be about equally as bad as ours. I would argue that makes us "Comparable teams" Per the committee's guidelines, when teams are comparable, head to head and conference championships will be factored in.

Thus Clemson I think would jump Bama to move to #2, the question is do we jump OSU as well. OSU had a better set of wins and better schedule argument. I'm curious if the committee would penalize OSU for not playing in their conf title game.

But in my objective mind, if bama loses it should be

1. Clemson
2. Ohio State
3. Bama
4. Washington or B1G Champ

My guess would be

1.Clemson
2.Alabama
3.Washington
4.OSU

This is my guess as well***
