If Don Munson went to ACC media who would fans want?
Jan 16, 2019, 9:56 AM

Clemson sports has a unique circumstance as Munson broadcasts a majority of the sports like Jim Philips did prior to his death. Munson obviously enjoys his role, but what if he left Clemson for a larger role in ACC media. Who would you as a fan want to take his place as "Voice of the Tigers?" My initial choice would be Pete Yanity, but who would be a solid replacement?
Just something to discuss in the time frame between football and basketball/baseball.

Surely, we can come up with someone better. Would like to see a former Clemson player if possible.

What does ACC media mean? The new ACC Network coming this summer?
I think ESPN will use their own guys to call games, perhaps you’ll see Roy Phiilpott calling more ACC and less Wyoming, Boise St., etc. No offense to Munson, but don’t think he is good enough to work at that level.

In asking the question I pondered if Munson were good enough to work ACC network events. While his skill level has grown I don’t think Munson compares well with other radio announcers in the conference, but if we went on a regional/national search I wonder who with knowledge of Tiger sports and our traditions we could hire.

I haven't heard anyone I'd put above Yannity! If he did just football or Football/Basketball I'd be happy.

Reading and public speaking are not strengths , but I would do it for season tickets and a year's membership into the Jerky of the Month club .

How about this scenario...

Don Munson stays on as the voice of Clemson radio, and the ACC Network just hires a couple former Clemson players to work at the network.
It would be generate even more exposure for Clemson and be a good career opportunity.
I think Tajh would be great at media as he's proven time and again over the years.
Then we just need a defensive guy. Boulware would be great. CW42 should take over in about 15 years one his HOF NFL career is over.

the color and sideline guys can be Clemson guys but give me a PBP guy with a great radio voice that can make a blind man see the game

Great, clear calling of games. The basketball guy who did last year was pretty good too. I also like the idea of giving Boyd or Boulware color commentary.

I hope when he passed away they saved some of his DNA and we could clone another Munson, "Larry".

Dabo wants a media person who can be a full time Clemson media person, not part time Clemson and full time TV sports director where he must cover other teams. That was one of the reasons Yanity did not get the Clemson job. Personally, I enjoyed listening to Pete and his “there’s orange in the end zone.” I also think Don does a good job announcing and representing Clemson.

Sports commentators change networks and stations all the time. Maybe we could give him a raise and get Todd Ellis to cycle over here and take the job. He’s got to be tired of calling all those Gamecock losses.

If only we were so lucky. Munson isn't going anywhere, nobody that has heard one of his broadcasts would even think of hiring him

I’ll clear my schedule and quit my job. My family all agree I can see more than any announce team during games anyway. And I listened to Jim Phillips for decades so I can link to the past PBP cadence.

If not Pete Yannity, why not Mickey Plyler? Both would bring more energy and accuracy than the current setup (except when Tim Bourret is there for basketball).

I like Mickey, don’t get me wrong. But at times he rattles off words and sentences so fast and runs things together it’s hard to understand what he’s saying. A PBP guy has to speak clearly and be easy to understand.
