Horror movies vs Thrillers.

Dec 8, 2015, 2:01 PM

How do you distinguish? It seems 7spots goes in search of Thrillers but finds horror movies and gets frustrated.

badge-donor-05yr.jpgringofhonor-aero.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

I'd say the main distinction between the two, is that

Dec 8, 2015, 2:04 PM

on genre is 'Thriller', and the other one i 'horror'

Well son, they call Sam Hunt country but he

belongs in R&B. If you aren't going to make fun of my total lack of ##### given about editing and careless typing, be funny at something. If you can't be funny, add something to the conversation, Don.

Thank you pimp.

Dec 8, 2015, 2:10 PM [ in reply to Well son, they call Sam Hunt country but he ]

Your effort is appreciated!

But what should I think when AERO is translating my posts?

Don't care... I appreciate your effort.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

a non-horror thrilller is something like "Psycho" or "Jaws"

Dec 8, 2015, 2:06 PM

maybe James Bond, I guess.

is "thriller" different than "suspense" or "action"? Maybe not?

It's kind of like catagorizing music into "country" or "western".....

badge-donor-05yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Not sure there is much difference between

Dec 8, 2015, 2:19 PM

"thriller" and "suspense". "Suspense" has a more calm, steady connotation, while "thriller" connotes more of a twist-and-turn kind of plot.

Action is different from both. Action is about loud noises, special effects, and stunts, not about plot.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

I'd think Jaws can be labeled 'horror'

Dec 8, 2015, 4:33 PM [ in reply to a non-horror thrilller is something like "Psycho" or "Jaws" ]

Sci-fi and paranormal also need to be in the discussion

badge-donor-10yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Corporations are people. So is Soylent Green.

Horror usually has a fantastical or supernatural element.

Dec 8, 2015, 2:07 PM

Thrillers are a little more real-world based.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Horror sounds like the Bible

Dec 8, 2015, 2:08 PM

SLWUT?

I'd say that is a fair statement.

Dec 8, 2015, 2:12 PM [ in reply to Horror usually has a fantastical or supernatural element. ]

Maybe thrillers have some mystery to try and figure out where a horror movie is just seeing who makes it out alive.

badge-donor-05yr.jpgringofhonor-aero.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

"Silence of the Lambs" is a good example

Dec 8, 2015, 2:15 PM

no horror, but def keeps you on the egde.

Deeply mentally disturbed characters are a helpful element.

badge-donor-05yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Perhaps the all-time greatest thriller.

Dec 8, 2015, 2:16 PM

Probably is my favorite.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

You should watch the 3 seasons of Hannibal on TV

Dec 8, 2015, 4:53 PM

If you liked Silence

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Silence is golden.***

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

I quit watching when the news hit it was cancelled

Dec 8, 2015, 5:01 PM

for fears it wouldn't end with a satisfying conclusion. Did you finish it and are my fears warranted?

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

not sure how I felt about it

Dec 8, 2015, 7:29 PM

It was good enough I guess, but any show that actually ends instead of being cancelled outright is good enough for me these days

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Like TOTE1 and SHORTY you now have my allegiance.

Dec 8, 2015, 2:12 PM

Ride or die! Ride or die!

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

My suggestion was real by the way. But read about it

Dec 8, 2015, 2:14 PM

a tad first to make sure none of your parameters are broken. I also recommend being up late to watch it.

badge-donor-05yr.jpgringofhonor-aero.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

How about thrillers utilize more plot devices to

Dec 8, 2015, 2:14 PM

elicit mental response, while horrors more often utilize gratuitous images.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

This #### gets it^^^^^^***

Dec 8, 2015, 2:15 PM

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Horror tends to be about blood and monsters

Dec 8, 2015, 4:59 PM

meant to illicit fear in the audience. They also tend to be formulaic and often good vs evil (often literally).

Thriller is a broader category, evidenced by the tendency to have an adjective in front like (political or psychological) that categorizes it more narrowly, that tends to illicit excitement but can also focus on fear. Often thrillers ask more from an attention standpoint to get the full payoff than does horror.
