IDK seems like America got Americans good this time.

At best we learned a few things, but likely we learned nothing. America’s arrogance combined with pointless political divisiveness suggests we have the capacity to repeat our same mistakes. Just hope the next time things are not worse.

Culturally Americans lack any sense of community. It didn’t use to be that way but our individualism has strangely metastasized into a cancer of unwavering tribal loyalty ... cults driven by outdated doctrine with little understanding of evolving science or pragmatic compromise.

But hell, wave the flag. Buy a big flag so yours is larger than your neighbors. Flag size seems to be important nowadays. The old flags that covered our fathers’ caskets are quietly fading. The US flags’ ability to unite and inspire sacrifice for country mostly a distant memory.

I think that my parents who were raised in the Great Depression, endured and fought in WWII, would be saddened by the way America handled the pandemic. Who knows, maybe the last year has given birth to to a resurgence of old school patriotism_ the kind defined by courage, selflessness and compassion for other Americans. Just don’t see it yet.

Almost all of those fit into a well defined demographic.

How did our policies address this specific reality?

I would propose that we took on policies that failed to recognize it, and that cost us more than we can calculate.

So deaths are up 20%, and this is what you got?

Feb 22, 2021, 8:42 PM [ in reply to Re: 500k dead. ]

I guess 3,000 people died on 9/11, and what kind of tribute did the other 2,497,000 get?

Wow.

Any analysis of total deaths year over year?

Feb 22, 2021, 8:30 PM

Just wondered what the "additional" deaths were.

This gives you some idea......

Btw, the spike in January of 2018 was the worst flu season in over a decade.

https://public.tableau.com/views/COVID_excess_mort_withcauses_02172021/WeeklyExcessDeaths?:#####=y&:jsdebug=y&:toolbar=n&:tabs=n&:display_count=n&:origin=viz_share_link

You can break it down by state. Arizona is horrible. 65-70% excess deaths in some weeks. We topped out at 40-48% in our worst week in SC 1/16-1/23. California has weeks with 80% excess deaths.
