I wuz gonna post a long thoughtful post on gun control

Jan 7, 2016, 8:05 PM

but I hit a wrong key and it got deleted.

So, in summary, I own 4 guns. I don't like Obama. I don't like the NRA. I like the 2nd amendment. I'm for reasonable, workable tightening of gun sales, particularly gun shows and internet. I'm for figuring out a way to navigate privacy vs mental health issues and gun ownership. I acknowledge both of these won't stop all stoopid gun violence, and wouldn't have stopped some of the horrific events in the news the last couple years. But that's no reason to do nothing.

Thing is, the forty or so evil people who chose to use guns to get there 15 minutes of fame over the last several decades would have found some method to inflict the horror regardless whether they had access to a gun or not. Can't legislate against evil. Can have a little more accountability but you going to restrict millions of people's rights over what forty something people have done over several decades? We/all need to be more involved in detecting the warning signs of a dangerous person me thinks.

1) maybe
2) true
3) maybe, depending on the rules, does it really restrict what millions want to do? Hope not.
4) true

you cannot close "loophole" without full scale registration

Jan 7, 2016, 9:06 PM

That is the rub.

Re: you cannot close "loophole" without full scale registration

Jan 7, 2016, 9:15 PM

Not sure who it would have stopped if there had been full registration for every last gun on earth for the last fifty years? I understand the feeling the need to do something but the root problem isn't the guns and bullets it the screwed up mfers looking for attention to their "cause".

Pipe bomb, car bomb, chemical bomb, etc. Still got a problem is what I worry about.

the human heart has contained evil since Cain Slew Abel

Jan 7, 2016, 9:39 PM

no guns involved.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

which is no real reason against reasonable gun access reform

Jan 7, 2016, 9:57 PM

I would think a few less murders would happen if a few less people had easy access to guns.

I'm not sure how Cain slew Abel, but some murders would not happen without guns.

Again, not that I would want to limit almost all people's access to almost all currently available guns. Or that stupid murders wouldn't still happen with guns anyways. I just think some more tighter regulation would help over time.

2024 white level memberbadge-donor-15yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

I don't really know, seems like we could do better than now.

Jan 7, 2016, 9:38 PM [ in reply to you cannot close "loophole" without full scale registration ]

but extreme compliance would be a nightmare. We could figure out a way to tighten up some.

And again, I don't think this solves everything, but makes sense and would help over the long run.

Dont understand how people against war on drugs dont see it

Jan 7, 2016, 10:04 PM

take drugs replace it with guns same result. when the market demands it people will find a way. sure it will cost a little more but guns will still be here. Unless you are willing to side with the shut down the border crowd but that makes you racist. just fyi

Re: And I don't understand

Jan 7, 2016, 10:12 PM

why nobody is talking about reducing world population. Seems like having about half the number of people would also solve a heap of problems. Ain't no politicians going to touch that one! Oh, wait, are we on the wrong bored?

"when the market demands it people will find a way. "

Jan 7, 2016, 10:23 PM [ in reply to Dont understand how people against war on drugs dont see it ]

yep. that's true. But that's not a reason not to restrict it to whatever make sense. Young people still kill people driving on the roads, but it's less because we have restrictions on driving. I don't hear outrage about restriction of Constitutioanl rights about that.

2024 white level memberbadge-donor-15yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

could you point me to the "drivers licence" Amendment***

Jan 7, 2016, 10:26 PM

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

there ain't one. Not required to legislate reasonable

Jan 7, 2016, 10:40 PM

restrictions on driving priviledges.

2024 white level memberbadge-donor-15yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Thats the dumbest thing i have ever heard

Jan 7, 2016, 10:38 PM [ in reply to "when the market demands it people will find a way. " ]

You are saying restrict, how do you restrict people from bringing guns in from Mexico. They do same thing with drugs but I bet you say legalize drugs cause they are none violent offenders.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

I thumbed your post up but I'm not sure what you're

Jan 7, 2016, 10:40 PM

referring to about tightening gun sales "over the internet".

A gun purchase over the internet still has to ship to a FFL (firearms cannot ship directly to buyer), who performs a background check before they release the firearm to you.

Can you elaborate?

2024 orange level memberbadge-donor-20yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

maybe you're right. Not an expert on internet sales.

Jan 7, 2016, 10:50 PM

dangerous to go by liberal news reports. Just lumped it in with gun show sales because the liberal news did. I'll concede that point to you, no problem.

Someone mentioned borders in the thread... I was

Jan 8, 2016, 9:34 AM

waiting in the check out line at a grocery store for a while and noticed to lady getting checked out was pregnant, and non-english speaking. I also noticed that she had a boat load of groceries which she was getting free. The clerk was using a check list with codes to key in to override the cost she would need to pay. Most in that line eventually changed lines to expedite checkout.

I would rather our resources aid Americans... There are plenty of Americans that are struggling to pay bills, and provide for their needs that are not getting the help they deserve and many are white. It's a growing problem, former middle class folks have been unable to secure decent employment and being turned away from many assistance centers.

It may seem inhumane to close our borders and turn away refugees and illegals, but until we can get a grip of our own problems we should proceed with caution. If we can't feed our own citizens, then we shouldn't try to feed the world.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

IDK anything about what you saw but you know all Americans

Jan 8, 2016, 9:57 AM

aren't english speakers, right?

If I lived in Columbia, I'd learn spanish because it makes sense to communicate with the majority of people that live around me.

Perfectly reasonable thoughts.
