I would appreciate intelligent remarks on this......

Jan 10, 2020, 12:43 PM

Do you think that our earlier game with a very good Ohio State team prepared us better for the championship game with LSU than their game with Oklahoma prepared them for the big game with Clemson? 2 vs 3. 1 vs 4. !

Only if it is a close game

Re: I would appreciate intelligent remarks on this......

If we win, then it helped prepare us.

If we lose, then it tired us out and we didn't have time to recover.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Yes...

Jan 10, 2020, 12:50 PM

Packer and Durham discussed this with Lugs this morning.

I have always believed that the mental part of the game is more important than the physical part of the game - something that rubbed off on me from my dad.

I think LSU is ripe for the pickin'. They are constantly being told how great they are. I don't care how grounded you are mentally. That eventually goes to your head. I think that was part of TL's problem at the beginning of the year.

We've had our wake up calls and KNOW we are beatable. LSU not-so-much.

I love the sentiment about mental part v physical part.

Jan 10, 2020, 12:56 PM

However, I won't be able to truly believe it until I see a 190-pound RB pancake a 300-pound DT.

A pancake is not required for a block to be successful. See Galluman's block on Renfrow's TD.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

I'm not arguing that a block has to be a pancake to be

Jan 10, 2020, 2:30 PM

successful. I'm arguing that, while we like to hear that it's the size of the fight in the dog not the size of the dog, "want to" seldom overcomes size. If it were mostly about "want to," teams would manage the psychiatry far more than the strength/conditioning and not the other way around.

badge-donor-05yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

that is not really the argument I was making earlier either.

Jan 10, 2020, 2:53 PM

Psychology plays a huge role in helping the physical go further. My high school coach called it "intestinal fortitude." Can you convince yourself you're not tired when you can hardly stand up. Can you push yourself to keep going when it seems all hope is lost.

Not really about cliches like the dog thing.

There are people who achieve against all odds. Dabo is one of them.

Does Deshaun (just over 200 lbs.) getting hit by 2 NFL defenders (roughly 475 lbs. combined weight) less than a half second apart, remaining completely un-phased, and then throwing a pass that leads to 30+ yard gain and the game-winning FG count?

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

DW4 is a unicorn. We all know that. Anything he does is

an anomaly that can't be accomplished by mere NFL players.

But the second hit helped him stay upright.

badge-donor-05yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Unquestionably. Actually I would rank it like this:

Jan 10, 2020, 12:50 PM

1) Clemson’s win over Ohio State will give our guys that much confidence that they aren’t just there because of a weak conference this year, AND have us a Wake-up call that, at this level, we have to be ready to execute, every play.

2) LSU’s win over Oklahoma benefits Clemson in that we have that much more to analyze in that offense and prepare for.

3) The Oklahoma win does nothing for LSU in that they didn’t really have to work to crush an overmatched defense. If anything, it may have solidified in their minds that they cannot be beat.

With two weeks to recover, the playoffs were very good for Clemson.

doubt LSU got anything out i

Jan 10, 2020, 1:08 PM

Thanks. I agree with both of you. The confidence thing is a biggie I think. I’m sure the LSU coaches have prepared their team for a battle .... or have they? Can’t wait!

The question is, was Oklahoma that bad? Or is LSU that good?
That is why we are playing this Monday night game. I like or chances.

I didn’t get to watch the P and D show this morning except for a few minutes. They were talking about the top 150 players when I had to leave. I was wondering if the name of Fred Cone came up in the discussion. It should have.

Go to the Oklahoma site and look at the scores vs. everyone else and either Oklahoma has no defense to speak of or the Big 12 is an offensive juggernaut! Oklahoma struggled with lots of folks all season long and were just lucky to be where they ended up! After LSU got half the defense of Oklahoma kicked out for Ostraline or Ovaltine the knew they'd have no issue with that D...have heard through the grapevine that every time the NCAA tests LSU it's the same 6 white guys and 6 brothers...all preachers sons!

mantra really seems to echo with Dabo's teams. They said they weren't happy with the performance vs OSU so I can see our offense go guns blazing in this game.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Re: The "leave no doubt"

Jan 10, 2020, 3:00 PM

I worry more about the health of Clemson players. If everyone got healthy in time to practice at full speed then the edge goes to Clemson. If not rust may have set in and key players will not be at peak potential. Mentally they will be prepared. Games plans will be perfected just concerned on the execution of not being able to be at full potential practicing at the level they need to be conditioned for the game. LSU is a bruising team. It will be another trench warfare type game. The team that stays healthy throughout will be better to win in the fourth quarter. Let’s put it away by the end of third.

Re: Unquestionably. Actually I would rank it like this:

Jan 10, 2020, 2:51 PM [ in reply to Unquestionably. Actually I would rank it like this: ]

Your second and third points contradict each other.

You can’t say LSU didn’t really have work against an overmatched OU Defense and then say Clemson gained valuable insight from it.

After watching the OU game, Clemson should focus on using Higgins/Ross like OU used Lamb; put them in the slot and exploit the LSU Safety/Nickel matchup.

If anything, Clemson showed LSU more in their game vs tOSU specifically game planning around TL ability as a runner.

Jan 10, 2020, 1:10 PM

They got an unneeded confidence boost, and we got a dose of reality. Being tested and having to dig deep and find a way to win, I think, benefits us in this game.

I think that based on their cakewalk semi-final, they have already chalked up a win.

Iron sharpens iron, right?

Looking back to our easy win over ND in the semi last year, I’d say it’s just going to be who the better team is that night. LSU is a very good team. So are we. Hoping we bring our very best game and settle it fair and square.

Jan 11, 2020, 10:46 AM [ in reply to Re: I would appreciate intelligent remarks on this...... ]

Our win over ND last year in the semi was judged by all the pundits to mean that ND didn't belong in the playoffs because we beat them by 27...they were just too easy...when we beat the best SEC team of all time by 28 then Alabama was just tired from playing too many tough teams...same thing..had nothing to do with Clemson...hurry SEC homers...lets find an excuse for Bama getting their ### waxed and we will all use that one until everyone knows it by heart! Love Dabo response to this crap...line em up and we'll play em...BAMA was GOAT, LSU is GOAT and next year it will be VANDY being GOAT...just kidding!

Re: I would appreciate intelligent remarks on this......

Jan 10, 2020, 2:03 PM

Confidence wise yes. Also gets the rust off. The layoff for the first game is pretty long. And finally I think Oh St has some similar weapons to LSU. And lastly just more opportunity to prepare and refine. Personally I think having been here several times before benefits us versus a first time for LSU.

Re: I would appreciate intelligent remarks on this......

Jan 10, 2020, 2:07 PM

I personally think playing a close game, against a quality team, that went down to the wire is preferable to a cake walk since we've not really been tested in months.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Re: I would appreciate intelligent remarks on this......

Jan 10, 2020, 2:10 PM

I'd like to think that the OSU game shook Clemson up enough to make them not want a repeat performance in the NC.

Personally, I don't think the OK game did anything for LSU. If nothing else, it reinforced an already existing feeling of invincibility/inevitability for them.

I think Clemson will "bring it" against LSU, especially in lieu of the OSU game. How LSU handles being told how "great" they are individually and as a team will go a long way in determining their chances of success. If LSU is "cocky" (i.e. comes in thinking they've played teams like Clemson already) this game will get out of hand quickly.

I still think OSU is better than LSU FWIW.

2024 purple level member flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Yes. Mostly because The Tigers got some much needed

Jan 10, 2020, 2:16 PM

experience against an elite opponent. (For example, OSU's WRs made some catches that Boston College's WRs do not...)

It took The Tigers about a quarter to remind themselves about the skill and speed of the game against an elite team.

We've seen it now. We're ready now. LSU is in trouble.

Yes, we HAD to revisit our championship level of play to win that game.

LSU has NOT had to dig down deep in quite a while. How long will it take them to find their AAA game and can they still bring it in the 4th Quarter ??

Not sure why actual questions get ignored, and the request to have honest eval questions/responses seem to give open the flood gates to get less than focused responses. That said....

I truly think this game elevated our intensity. The games we played throughout the season have presented little attention minus UNC. Then with OSU, lots of younger players realized we were playing with men and not HighSchoolers that are 1yr out of HS. I think just the fact they realized there are teams with equal talent but also equal coaching. You could see difference in play from first half to second.

The better-than-ye chip on shoulder was knocked of and now they realize this isn't a cakewalk. I think this was a great win with opportunities to check our focus!

Go Tigers! We get this win!
