Who gets fired first: Herman, Malzahn, or Harbaugh?

Nov 29, 2020, 9:05 AM

My money is on Harbaugh - the most overpaid for least production coach in all of college football. Can't win the big games and is now losing the smaller games. Stick a fork in Harbaugh - he is done.

Malzahn's first year (2013) was his best year and ever since he has been riding Auburn like Tommy Bowden did at Clemson. Win just enough to give a glimmer of hope that Auburn will be a contender only to see them crash and burn. The only thing saving Malzahn at this point is his ridiculous $21 Million buyout.

Herman will probably get another year at Texas - only being 4 seasons into the job and 2 years away from a 10 win season. But his record is starting to look a lot like Mack Brown's near the end of his Texas tenure. But the Texas money men may give the go ahead to dump him if they think they can lure a better coach there.

It's possible all three could be gone by year's end. I agree

Nov 29, 2020, 9:11 AM

that Harbaugh might be the first!

Definitely Harbaugh. He's lost almost every big game in his career at Michigan. Never beat OSU or Penn state, couldnt even beat an 0-5 Penn state.

Harbaugh is 3-3 against Penn st***

Harbaugh will be fired first and his replacement will be Iowa State HC Chad Campbell. Campbell was previously the Toledo HC so he knows the region.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Is Chad Matt's brother?

Nov 29, 2020, 9:52 AM

Didn't know he was a coach.

Only his closest friends call him "Chad" most folks call him Matt. FYI, he's a scratch golfer too.

Nov 29, 2020, 8:06 PM

if Texas loses any more games, I don't know if Herman gets another year or not. Longhorn boosters are not known to be long on patience, and he has already tried their patience aplenty. As you said, MallZone's buyout will save him for another year.

Just another case of a successful mid-major coach getting the big job and failing miserably.

I seriously doubt any of them are fired this year.

Re: Who gets fired first: Herman, Malzahn, or Harbaugh?

Nov 29, 2020, 8:59 PM

I agree Harbaugh was a bad hire from the beginning IMO. In a year where many athletic budgets are losing a lot of revenue, I think it would be much better for AD’s to see what 2021 brings before taking on big contract buy outs. SC has put themselves in a very difficult situation. How much would WM’s contract buyout have been in 2021.

I do disagree with you about Tommy Bowden. He is not the kind of coach or man that would use Clemson or any other HCing job just for money. He sincerely wanted to bring the Clemson fans a winning program.

Malzahn, then Herman, and Harbaugh a far distant third.

Nov 30, 2020, 8:55 AM

Harbaugh might quit to back to the NFL after this season. But there is zero chance their administration gets rid of him after this season.

Just realized I didn't answer the question, sorry! To me they fall in the following order:

1. Harbaugh
2. Herman
3. Malzahn ( don't think he gets fired though).

**4. Franklin - Franklin ends up in Nick Sabans coaching re-hab lab!

a buyout, and supposedly Steele also has a $5 MILLION buyout?

The SEC's huge income from TV and such is obviously allowing them to just waste money with no thought about consequences.

That being said, it had always been a puzzle to me how a coach with all the innovative offense that Gus Malzahn supposedly had, could never seem to recruit a great QB to run his system. Gus never seemed to have the most engaging personality, but it must be a total turnoff in recruiting, given the results.

Dec 14, 2020, 9:20 AM

He's a "Michigan man" with a history of success as a coach, despite the mediocre results he's been able to produce thus far in Ann Arbor. They will mutually reach an agreement to part ways, or something like that. I could see him going back to the NFL.
