I know everyone on Tigernet knows I hate to Targeting Rule! But it’s not the rule

I dislike it’s the way players are judged for targeting and the current punishment. I would estimate targeting calls were incorrectly enforced by replay officials approximately 30 percent of the time. Then when it’s enforced that player ejected from one or two parts of the game. You punish them for 3 plus quarters. Targeting has had affected the outcome of several games.

Yet a player can purposely get called for a cheap shot which could seriously cause injuries to players. That a personal foul for 15 yards and the player gets a second chance. That’s another option. Eject a player if he has 2 targeting calls in a game or if he has 1 personal foul and a targeting call during the same game then eject them for the remainder of that game. Don’t include the next game.

Instead of ejecting the players especially for a BG, their last game or the CFP’s make targeting a 30 yard penalty. Official’s can affect the outcome of games by enforcing targeting calls and ejecting players. I am all for safety but I think it’s a bad rule for CF as it stands and needs to be changed.

I feel targeting ejections had some negative affects for Clemson last night. If Nolan Turner and Scalski had played the entire game last night the outcome may have been different. Especially in a year with Covid has taken its toll on many teams.

IMO the targeting rule must be changed. Coaches will help limit targeting penalties. What Coach wants a 30 yard penalty. When it’s called there should be at least 2 official’s in the replay booth making targeting call decision. There is too much at risk at stake when targeting is called based on the current rules and officials can have influence on the games out come.

All college officials should be required to take a yearly refresher coarse for offensive holding. Since the missed OSU holding most every play last night.
