My boy came how yesterday

When we picked him up, the nurse said the best way to describe the surgery is that my boy is now a girl. He had been neutered already, but they had to give him a new pee-hole behind his dong. It's a mess down there now though, so I have no idea what it looks like. So now we have 1-2 weeks of bleeding to take care of but he can finally relieve himself again, which he did twice in our bed last night. He acts like absolutely nothing is wrong though, completely oblivious to the cone and the surgery spot. He is on some crazy meds, the same meds they gave my Dad towards the end of his life, pain killers like gabapentin and tramadol.
So today, hopefully he sits around high AF and rests while I work. And hopefully the bleeding stops a little faster than they estimated.

That is the common question. Nurse had seen it once

in 20 years of vet work. Same with the doctor.
It was a mistake, and mistakes happen in life, luckily our boy didn't die from it. Being a mistake doesn't excuse it though and the head Vet at the place we have been going to for YEARS knows that and understands that. Good people mess up sometimes.

Everyone that operates has complications. It's one thing you have to accept if you're going to do the job, and it makes me sit awake and stare at the ceiling some nights.
But this one sounds fairly negligent and below the standard of care, and I almost always fall in favor of the surgeon. It may be worth your time to inquire into getting the costs of the complication covered.
