Possible solution to the correct number of teams in the

CFP: 4 conferences and relegation/promotion.

There are currently 64 teams in the power 5 conferences, 65 if you include Notre Dame. So say you go with 4 conferences with 2 divisions in each. You play your division teams once each, some cross division games, and some out-of-conference games. You can have 7 team divisions (56 total) or 8 team divisions (64 total). Doesn't really matter. It gives you a 8 team playoff, starting with the conference championship games.

Then there is some sort of promotion/relegation. Maybe the worst team in each division is relegated down to the group of 5 level. Likewise, the division winner in each group of 5 division is promoted up to the higher level for the next season. If Cincinnati or Coastal want to play with the big boys, here's their chance. Win and move up. Keep winning and stay up. Likewise if you don't care about big-time football, drop down and you don't have the pressure of the big guys.

The alignment will change each year, and it doesn't prevent scheduling future out of conference or lower level games for the future. Could be that one of those games becomes a conference game in the future.

I don't care if conferences are top two or division winners. Work it out. If you want to play big-time college football, you have that chance.

Just something to chew on until the spring game!

Is everyone is starting to suggest things that soccer has been doing forever

After the skalski targeting, now everyone wants a warning and then ejection (yellow card>red card, with some things being straight red)

I love the idea of relegation in college football

After a lifetime of everyone making fun of soccer, it’s finally coming around that it’s got some good concepts

Glad you didn’t take that as me talking trash

I’ve had that conversation numerous times

What on earth would UofSC say if they got relegated to group of five and couldn’t hang their hats on SEC SEC SEC?!?!?

It would be glorious
