Gut feeling about this basketball tournament.

This morning, I started envisioning us at least making it to the championship game.
Will beat Nancy State today, then knock off UVA and FSU.

Not willing to place any money on it, though.

I envision myself landing Ariana Grande,

but I also wouldn't put any money on it.

You obviously don't subscribe to the Dabo Swinney one game at a time mantra!

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

I would if I were a coach or player. Doesn’t matter so much for fans.

In fact, sometimes it’s important for fans to look ahead. We have to make our own travel arrangements and all that kinda stuff.

Dabo’s goal every year is to win the closer.

Yes he has a one game at a time mentality, but you can climb off your high horse on this one.

Every team has aspirations that go beyond the next game.

Not to mention, we’re fans. That song and dance gets old from people like you. We can look ahead as much as we’d like, and it should influence the results at absolutely zero percent.

Every team plays a closer. Even teams who are not bowl eligible play a final game of the season.

It says nothing about his "aspirations".

It simply means that finishing strong is something that is important to his team culture.

I believe he also has win the state. That doesn't mean he is looking ahead to the South Carolina game all year.

You seem very emotionally attached to making sure that other fans don't have a "one game at a time" focus.

Of course it doesn't matter what fans focus on, but that works both ways.

Per Dabo himself, he changed the final goal from:

“Win the Bowl Game”

To

“Win the Closer”

Because the team accomplished all 5 goals, and still didn’t win the National Championship.

https://www.thestate.com/sports/college/acc/clemson-university/article93390482.html

I remember that interview clearly. Dabo’s goal is to win the National Championship.

Yes it is a process, yes it requires a one game at a time mentality.

But if you think Dabo doesn’t have that in his sights from the moment the last game of the season ends, then you’re wrong. He’s said it. Clearly.

Re: Gut feeling about this basketball tournament.

Which means the team didn't finish.

He wants to make sure the team wins the last game it plays regardless of what game that is.

He realized win the bowl game did not cover all of the options.

Dabo has also said that he does not have win the national championship as a goal for a reason. He feels it takes away from how he wants his teams to approach the season.

If Clemson happens to not make the playoffs, it's still just as important to him to win the closer.

He wants every team to finish strong.

With playoffs, now in football, basketball and baseball...if you accomplish all other goals and win the closer, you win it all.

Not saying we can’t be proud of our team, but the goal is to win it all. Period.

Not sure how you’re not connecting those dots. But, you do you man. No worries.

You should have mentioned that you are no longer in high school or college and you don't carry those in your wallet anymore.

Unless those hats are gold, I’m pretty sure getting her would require you to be valuated using the terms “net worth” and not if you had a Trojan in your wallet.

at the Tobacco Road Old Boy Gathering

HOPE beyond ALL HOPE that I am completely wrong and we win it all.

SO tired of Clemson Basketball being 3rd tier - with noted outliers . . . .

I remember as a kid listening to JP out in Ogden, Utah as we were playing UCLA to go to the Final 4, I think.

Man - a run like that would be REALLY fun right about now ! ! ! !

Brad Brownell: Only Larry freaking Shyatt has a WORSE overall winning percentage among Clemson basketball coaches since 1975. Let that sink in. It's Larry Shyatt & then Brad Brownell.

I was in Vail... We got robbed in that one, too...***
