Building a house

Every single living white woman between the ages of 18-65, my own ball and chain included, has adopted the aesthetic taste of Joanna Gaines.

The grey, beige and white farmhouse look

Feb 3, 2021, 9:34 AM

is soo creative though!

We have done no remodeling cause house is 6 years old, what

Honestly, tho, it really invokes a true colonial feel, down

to the double vanities and 20sf floor-to-ceiling glass shower stall, both so iconic of that era and advancements in building technologies.

as far as white things mounted on the wall go, shiplap is as

Feb 3, 2021, 9:36 AM

'out' as TXtigerfan

I'm not sure if that really makes sense, if the maths work....but I'm going with it

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

OTOH, it makes it easy to flip a house

Feb 3, 2021, 9:44 AM

Throw a couple sliding barn doors in there, and you're done.

badge-donor-05yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

The good news is

Feb 3, 2021, 9:46 AM

that its already out of style. So you're building something thats already dated.

Please forgive me, @IneligibleUser

I bet the owners of those houses in the old village that

Feb 3, 2021, 9:49 AM

were built in the early 1800's that have original shiplap feel really stupid now!

Yes, out with the modern farmhouse, in with the "industrial farmhouse."

2024 orange level member flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

I'm more interested in starting the "modern slaughterhouse"

Feb 3, 2021, 9:51 AM

look. All stainless steel walls, graded concrete floor with a drain in the middle.

It will make cleaning VERY easy.

Anyone with kids and pets would buy those up. Fill it with plastic outdoor furniture and have a high-pressure spigot inside so you can hose the place down once a week and LIFE IS GRAND.

indoor dogs again. We'll live in a metal building with a concrete floor, strategically placed drains, and pontoon boat furniture. No rugs to trash, no hardwoods to scratch, no molding to get muddy. Only then could I not hate having dogs inside.

Lol. Wait until she gets "tired of it" in 10 years and then

Feb 3, 2021, 10:19 AM

you have to remodel it to whatever else is "the style". And after that it will have to be remodeled again. Depending on your age, you basically have 3 remodels at least over a lifetime marriage and house. Might just be cheaper with rates these days to move every 15 years or so as opposed to remodeling constantly.

Alternative is to find the unicorn wife who likes traditional stuff that doesn't go out of style and who only makes minor modifications and projects to upgrade, etc.

Feb 3, 2021, 10:59 AM

This is the first home we've built and I'm scared. Have to set a hard budget cap and be the debbie downer on doing too much that may be out of date when it comes time to sell.

It's hard to convince wimmens that what you're building likely isn't the "forever home" though.
