Big XII divisional nugget...
Jun 7, 2012, 9:57 AM
|
|
I said the other day that divisions are already being discussed regarding the new Big XII, at 12 teams.
The two getting the most support, right now, are:
1. North/South setup with CU/FSU and Texas schools in the South.
2. East/West setup with CU/FSU/WVU/KSU/KU/ISU in the East.
There are pro's and con's with the second one. First, it doesn't seem to be very balances with OU/UT/OSU in one... but that's debateable b/c you have FSU/CU/WVU in one as well.
Secondly, others thing going East/West favors more eastward and southern expansion in the future.
There are, however, many other scenarios being discussed as well.

Living in OK, I'd assume you'd prefer to see Clemson somehow placed in the same division with OU and OSU so they would play each other annually.

FSU wants to be in a division with either UT or OU...
Jun 7, 2012, 10:16 AM

That could play in our favor.
Another one thrown out has been CU/FSU/WVU/OU/OSU/ISU.
Also scenarios where we are not in division with FSU... but that's a longshot.

Regardless of whether you join UT in a division you get 1 home and 1 away game vs 2 of BU, UT, Tech, and TCU each year. That would help recruiting.

In a 12 team league UT or OU would be played each year
Jun 7, 2012, 10:23 AM
[ in reply to FSU wants to be in a division with either UT or OU... ] |
|
Years 1 & 2- Texas, OSU, TCU
Years 3 & 4- Tech, OU, Baylor
You'd get the high profile matchup vs Texas or OU and you'd get 1 game on the road in TX each year.
I don't see UT and OU splitting and you'd have to do that to put UT and FSU together or else the divisions have no balance.

Texas and OU rake in SERIOUS donations for ticket preferences for that Dallas game. Anything that diminishes that (say not competing for a division title) would be fought against tooth and nail.
Most likely setup is the two divisions he laid out.
Similar strength anchoring each:
FSU CU WVU
TX OU either Tech or OSU depending on who is "up".

I see OU and UT being in different divisions if they go to 12. That way the conference has a chance with both of them winning there division. UT vs OU in championship game. Also if the 4 team playoff goes through with divisional champs only. They both would have a shot.

Self fulfilling prophecy posse please just go away. Or at least get a life and change the subject. I don't know what your agenda is. Maybe you are stuck out there in no-mans land and just want to be able to see more Clemson games but you are wayyyy past the point of absurdity on this issue. The story is stale and your apologists look even more pathetic than you.
If a move occurs, we will hear about it but let's just continue to accept what we DO know. That being a game between Clemson and Auburn coming up fast. I have tried to be polite on here but this has just become an obsession with you and one wonders if you have a life at all outside of Tigetnet.
I check this board out every 4-5 days and it is like a freaking soap opera. You make the Nazi propaganda machine look like a bunch of pokers. Just go away!

I think Clemson is NOT joining the B12 .....
Jun 7, 2012, 10:29 AM
|
|
- Too much resistance to this move by forces OUTSIDE the hardcore B12 Football minority
- ACC will announce shortly additions to Conference... ND IS NOT impossible (per many other News Sources)
- 4 team playoff IS NOT a "done deal". Expect dramatic announcement post meeting this late June. What the SEC and their allies seem to forget is that there are 11 FBS Conferences, the other Conferences are not lapdogs.

why would ND come to the ACC over the B1G or Big12?
Jun 7, 2012, 10:33 AM
|
|
I just don't get it....their historic rivals are primarily in the B1G....can't seem them walking away from 100 yrs of history of games with Michigan, Purdue, Michigan St. Yes I know Missouri did with Kansas and Nebraska did as well but there were financial reasons as to why....the B1G and the Big12 provides more $ than the ACC.

IF ND Were To Join The ACC ...
Jun 7, 2012, 11:43 AM
|
|
Expect a "special deal" for them, because they are "special". ND's out of Conference games can be against teams of thier own choosing... so if they want to play 3 games against the B10, so be it... Also, and I don't know why, ND has stated empatically no way B10. In fact, they have said B12 is also very unlikely. Many pundits OUTSIDE of TigerNet have said if ND were to join a Conference, the ACC is the most likely Conference (many reasons, google it, por favor) an example
http://bleacherreport.com/articles/1177565-notre-dame-football-the-acc-makes-far-more-sense-than-the-big-twelve
To ND, a few million dollars more is not going to be the driving reason... thier endowment is HUGE, im short, the difference is "chump change". Heck, Clemson could make up the few million dollar difference by running a few special events at the Stadium.... AC/DC Concert anyone? Monster Truck Rally?

ND plays 3-4 ACC teams (incl. Pitt and Syr.) annually.
Jun 7, 2012, 12:15 PM
[ in reply to why would ND come to the ACC over the B1G or Big12? ] |

Everyone just assumes that the Big 10 is their natural rivalries because of their annual Michigan, Michigan State and Purdue games, but they seldom schedule any of the other teams. Their fan base, recruiting ground, and scheduling doesn't necessarily support the Big 10 connection like many people think.

[ in reply to I think Clemson is NOT joining the B12 ..... ] |

They can keep all there own TV money and get their own conference if they are forced to join one for the playoff. The Big east would bend over backwards to get them to join. No other conference will give up enough to get them to join. If the big east fails they can still go to any conference they want.

Zipper Divisions?
Jun 7, 2012, 10:40 AM

Idea suggested elsewhere (not a real rumor)...would even out travel and recruiting grounds among all conference members. - 2 Texas schools in each division - 1 Oklahoma and 1 Kansas school in each division - 1 "northern" school in each division - 1 "southeastern" school in each division
Your cross-rival would be permanent.

Revised zipper (pair the Oklahoma and Kansas schools because geographically they are the most similar)...you still get 2 Texas schools, 1 SE school and 1 North school per division.
Texas-------------------Oklahoma Texas Tech------------Baylor or TCU West Virginia---------Oklahoma State Kansas State---------Iowa State Kansas----------------TCU or Baylor Clemson--------------Florida State (or vice versa...)

It's a zipper setup. The idea is to equally distribute play in fertile recruting areas and overall travel equally between all the schools. Your cross-rival is permanent. You would still play Florida State every single year.
Divisional standings are just a way of creating scheduling and to allow for a conference championship game. Why does it matter if you are grouped in the same division as FSU when you are going to play them every season regardless?
If we go strictly on geography, you are going to end up playing Iowa State instead of Texas, does that sound more appealing to you?

during the 2011 ACC meetings, is now somehow not in good faith, and not being a man of your word?
I'm failing to follow this logic.

underperform on the field. There is a possibility that Swofford breached his fiduciary responsibility to the league's member institutuions, which is a form of fraud, i.e. not acting in good faith. If this act injured our university, then we're entitled to retribution. There's a clear cut difference between the two.

forbes article...IF that article is true and Clemson didn't know the details of the contract before signature....that's IF....you can easily say that the ACC did not negotiate in good faith and Swofford took care of friends of his/relatives of his to keep their network alive at the cost of money for the conference. Raycom gives ESPN $50M for the rights to air lower tier games. Swofford tells ESPN and FOX you must deal with Raycom as well....what a screw job.
