How similar will this years team be to 2018 team on defense?

Or offense for that matter.

Tall task, given how great the 2018 team was. But, I do think they will be outstanding. I would not be surprised to see them run the table. The first three games are good tune ups, giving many of the younger guys a chance to see action and grow up a bit. I think the Miami game may be the first challenge, since Diaz' defense will be pretty good. Tech, 'Cuse and BC offer little resistance. And then the Cantankerous Leprechauns in the land of the Irish. If Clemson wins every game through November 7th, they will go undefeated in the regular season, IMHO, win the ACC title game and once again go to the playoff, where they will face their toughest game(s). This may be a year where the Tiger don't have to be 2018 great to be 2020 real good.

To be more direct, I don't think they'll be quite as good on either side of the ball as they were in 2018. But, they can still win a Natty.

It should look different. More 4 man fronts instead of

3 down linemen. I’d expect nothing less than a top 10 total D from Venables.

I’m excited to see Tyler Davis, Bresee and Booth this year.

Hopefully offense will look totally different. Utilize the entire field and not rely on targeting the sideline so much.

Agreed.

Less depth at linebacker. If the yutes come through, the DL

should be similar. Likewise we need the yutes to come through in the secondary. Uncomfortable with all the yutes as backups at LB. I am looking forward to seeing a D more like 2018 instead of like 2019. We don't have a Simmons to operate like we did in 2019.

This team has a clear leader(Lawrence) like the 2018 team (Wilkins). Lawrence will be like Wilkins and accept nothing but a National title. The war daddies are back on the defensive side of the ball but, will be less experienced than 2018. On the flip side, the run game should be much better than 2018. Going to be a great year for Clemson football. I personally believe that Lawrence this year will have people saying “Joe who?”.
