Mar 4, 2021, 8:18 AM

I have two.

Mar 4, 2021, 8:23 AM

How many devices do you own that require a standalone propane tank?

Grill, and pot boiler thingy, can't come up with the noun at the moment.

Oyster roaster and grill. And I currently have zero filled tanks. Kid turned burner on grill on a few months ago and drained tank, haven’t refilled

Sure, why not. Anyway, it's something like this

Mar 4, 2021, 12:16 PM

Put a pot on it and steam oysters, frogmore stew, whatever. Seems to be called an outdoor burner from what I can tell.

3, but 2 are used very infrequently

Does the big tank for my gas logs count?

Mar 4, 2021, 8:21 AM

If so, I now have 4 because I bought a torch at tractor supply last night.

Because those are good for killing weeds around fences.

Mar 4, 2021, 10:26 AM

and not one of these:

Protip: for the first one, use MAPP gas. It costs a little more, but burns hotter so you will light it faster.

badge-donor-05yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

I like the torch head with a hose so I can turn the head

Mar 4, 2021, 10:28 AM

to actually light the charcoal (or pellets I guess), and when the tank isn't as full the torch doesn't go out:

badge-donor-05yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Correct.

Mainly to minimize swapping/filling them all the time. Still, do that maybe twice a year.

Mar 4, 2021, 8:28 AM

I went through a phase where I learned it was cheaper to buy somewhat full tanks at yard sales than to get them filled.

I only keep the 3 best ones filled and since I sold my gas grill 2 years ago, haven’t had to buy any for my emergency heater or my flattop griddle.

I also have 2 acetylene and three oxygen tanks and a couple of tanks of MAPP gas.

What cha wanna burn?

so. Ideally, the one I'm using now will run out mid-grilling so I'll need to drag 8 burgers and any other crap on the grill inside to finish it.

Mar 4, 2021, 9:16 AM

badge-donor-05yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Unlikely. I've only bought maybe 1 tank in my life.

Mar 4, 2021, 10:41 AM

I think they are like $40 empty. The others I've acquired over the years from folks moving, a friends dad that passed, etc. Knowing they are $40, I'm like SURE I'LL TAKE IT.

I really don't need 6, but it does keep me from having to get them filled on the reg. That said, I'm pretty sure I've refilled 4-5 of them on probably 4-5 different occasions over the past year. So they do get used.

Blackstone 36
Propane heater (screw in to top of tank kind)
Single standalone burner
Taller mushroom heater

They seem to go quick 'round here.

for the new smoker. Occasionally use a tank-top heater. I have a quick-connect to the house tank in the screened porch to fuel the gas grill, never run out whilest grilling.

2024 white level memberbadge-donor-15yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

I have 2, one's full...the other's too old to refill

Mar 4, 2021, 9:24 AM

and I don't even need them, because grill hooked up to gas line

i waffle between getting rid of them, and maybe possibly one day getting a propane heater for the patio.

$10 I still have them sitting in the garage in 10 years
