In the late 70s, used to trek from our intown Atlanta neighborhood way out to Doraville for exotic Mexican food at Monterrey. Then the San Jose opened on Hill Street (Great Neighborhood, said no one ever.) Good, cheap, food, cold beer, and the exact same menu as the Monterrey, so we started going there. It was maybe three blocks from the old police headquarters on Decatur Street so a lot of the evening watch detectives ate there when I had the cop beat at the AJC. Didn't know we were present at the founding of an empire.
