Made the campus tour on Friday with youngest snowflake.

When my acne pocked face first made its appearance on Clemson University's campus many decades ago, much proverbial water has gone under the bridge and many changes have been made. Some things have remained the same as we all know, there stands Tillman Tower, and Old Green Tom sits there unmoved by anything save a geological disturbance. We looked in on a residence room in Manning and it looked unchanged from my old room in Lever. My senior year was spent idling and ogling from the dizzy heights of 8th floor Lever.
Clemson has gotten into the same amenities-go-round that all the other schools are offering. Pampering our little entitled offspring in ways that were unheard of in my time. In my time, there were the two cafeterias that served just-under to minimally palatable food and we had the grill that served terrific egg sandwiches under the loggia. Well now, of course, they have Subway and Wendy's and Starbucks and other franchise cut-to-fit, waistline busting establishments all over campus.
What really, really bottled my mined though was the notion that, and I really can't wrap my little mined around this thoroughly, Clemson actually wants you to succeed. They have tutors available for you at no charge for just about every subject, writing labs to help you with almost every term paper, and at the library there is a staff person for every college to help you find resources to write that term paper.
Understand where I'm coming from because at my freshperson orientation the speaker said to us, look at the fool to your right, look at the fool to your left and realize those people won't be here at graduation. And it was true. My freshman forestry 101 class had around 120 people. In four years 24 graduated. Many had changed majors, but many also had left.
Clemson wants my snowflake to succeed??? Mein Gott!!!
Now, this concept is not new to me, they have the same stuff at my son's wretched school and I'm sure Clemsonlez is gonna say that NC Estate was like that forever. I tell this to my older brothers who also went to our beloved university and I could just see their jaws working.
And another thing, is it non-PC to mention John C. Calhoun, Vice President of the United States, Secretary of State, Secretary of War, and great US Senator? Because our tour guide, cute, perky, and knowledgeable though she was call Fort Hill, Thomas Clemson's house and tried to stumble over the codicil in the will requiring the 'army' to always be on the campus. Bless her, she did try hard.

Stay in school, bro.
At my son's school, like I said they have the same concept. But, I ask why? Despite their high, high academic reputation some of the courses he is required to take is pathetic. The papers that he has been required to write and the composition thereof has been average, at best. I know, because he didn't get to the writing lab in time and had me proof them.
He gets 'A's. I just don't see where the academic reputation is earned.

Once dated a girl that transferred from unc to ECU because of her major.
She stated unc was harder to get into, but easier to graduate from than ECU.
She was recalling personal horror stories about being grilled by the dean of her department and other staff for hours.

I remember the "look to your right" spiel.
I got accepted into Forestry because Engineering was filled up. I really did want to be a Forest Ranger growing up, but after I saw the pay scale, I changed my mind.
I changed over to Engineering second semester. First semester was basic 101 stuff anyways so I didn't lose any credits. Graduated in Electrical.
Don't know what happened to the 2 fools sitting beside me.

guy are today, but look to the left guy did not graduate due to a dispute with the government over unlicensed hemp sales, and does not show up on Google or social media searches. Look to the right guy drank himself out of Clemson at an early age and drifted back to his hometown. Used to hear something about him every once in a while from other friends in said South Carolina small town, but nothing in the last few years.

The cops are horrible, and you'll likely be paying for PTI due to an MIP or some other obscure charge. Fear not though, as billboards abound with lawyers that will happily assist in making sure her record is clean for the professional world.

I waited until I was 11. First beers, first drunk, first drunkvomit all the same day.
Me and one of my goodest pals lifted a sixpack of Budweiser from his Dad, who had cases of it stacked on the porch for a party they were having. Went down to the creek and drank three hot beers each on a scorching hot August day. That didn't make me swear off beer, but it probably is why I have an aversion to most all Anheuser-Busch products.
