Got down to 57 in the house

Jan 19, 2021, 12:30 PM

but replaced the 60A breaker and we are back in business. Hopefully that is the only problem, at least it is working for now.

Going to be a nice bill for a $10 part though, I bet. Is it hard to replace those? I need to learn that skill.

If it effed up a 60a breaker, you have something bigger

I was thinking more about putting a wrigley’s spearmint foil wrapper over the ends of the fuse.

Replace that fuse with a piece of rebar and look for the smoke signals.

See if you can determine what functions were running when the breaker tripped....

Let's break that down into:

Heat strips -

Blower -

Compressor -

You should be able to run each one by putting your thermostat in manual. See if the breaker trips... That'll get you headed down the right road.

Ifn you can get your paws on a clamp on amp meter, you could plug the contactors for each function and read the current draw. Check that against the spec and see if you have a non-conforming part.

Some easy stuff to check... are your filters clear... clogged filters would cause high amps on the blower. Probably not enough to trip the breaker, but maybe if the heat strips were also on...

Failing/failed capacitor on the compressor - definitely could cause tripped breaker .... this is where I put my money.

You got this, homes. A capacitor is only a few bucks.... if that is indeed the issue.
