Gamecock Torture Story

A gamecock friend who has in the past worked on my team at previous company texted me yesterday to ask some professional question about a new job she was thinking of taking. We talked and caught up, I made NO mention of their beatdown and kept it totally professional until late in the conversation she was asking about working for Private Equity companies and what type of equity and severance programs should she expect in her offer.

I then took her through some technicalities of equity and vesting and gently slipped in that most Private Equity firms will explore working as a 1099 contractor and that she needs to explore IRS publication 56 "dash" 7 to make sure she gets a good deal. It took about 30 seconds before she got it, then she hung up and sent me a text saying she was glad we didn't bet this year.
