Gabe Devoe

Feb 8, 2015, 7:30 PM

Reckon why Brownell didn't just redshirt Devoe.
Seems like a wasted freshman year.

Brownell and his staff do a great job developing players, but I just don't think this kid can play guard in the ACC. If he were a few inches taller, maybe he could play small forward.

I think the speed and intensity of the game at this level

Feb 8, 2015, 7:56 PM

has overwhelmed him.

Yeah he is supposed to be one more scorer ( Tops in NC last year @ Shelby HS), but he seemed exposed defensively the few times he has played. And the shot has not transitioned well to the college game.
Agree in retrospect a Red Shirt would have been a good idea.

It would help Devoe to be in better shape physically, he could stand to lose 10 to 15 lbs of flesh and put it back on in muscle.

How in the world Devoe and Rooks ever scored points in HS is beyond me, their competition level must have been pretty poor.

Speaking of Rooks

Feb 14, 2015, 7:35 PM

Whats going on with him?

Rooks' athleticism is still coming

Feb 14, 2015, 8:00 PM

Back from the very serious hip injury. He was never a top flight athlete so he simply can't guard anyone. Have to hope, like with JB this year, another year removed he can gain it back

Just hoping he stops pressing so much. We need him.

Shelby high schools plays some pretty good teams. Sometimes it takes a yr to figure it out.

He has gotten better thru pt. Plus why redshirt him for another program? Let them do it (if he were to leave)

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

I agree. He's def not a difference maker as a frosh, but

Feb 14, 2015, 8:56 PM

obviously Brad is not giving up on him.

There's a reason he wasn't highly recruited and it just may take him a while to adjust to the college game.

Getting extensive time on the court like he did today should certainly help him get up to speed. He didn't accomplish much today in his 12 minutes, but it was 12 minutes of experience that he got in an ACC game where we were fortunate enough to have a cushion where we could afford to put him out there and let him go.

Right on target Apex. I was there and Brad spent a ton of time with Gabe during timeouts instructing him one on one.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

I think hitting one of those wide open 3's like he had today

Feb 14, 2015, 9:09 PM

on more than one occasion would be huge for him.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

do you remember

Feb 14, 2015, 9:02 PM [ in reply to I agree. He's def not a difference maker as a frosh, but ]

when we had this same conversation about a kid named Stitt? worked out pretty well for the Tigers.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

he has improved a little

Feb 15, 2015, 8:35 AM

early in the year, he had the total look of being lost and afraid on the court

he looks a bit more comfortable now

he will need to work on his speed and quickness - maybe the athletic abiliity is there, maybe it's not....

if he could get a couple more shots to drop, maybe his confidence would improve dramatically
